The Lab School of Washington seeks a Registered Nurse (RN) for its Elementary Campus (grades 1-4) beginning this coming August. The position follows a school-year schedule. A part-time or full-time schedule will be considered.
The School Nurse for Elementary works in conjunction with our medical team (a School Nurse for the Middle School/High School and a consulting physician). The Nurse is responsible for the day-to-day health needs of the school community, communication with parents and staff, and for providing recommendations and guidance to the leadership team on a variety of health and safety issues.
The ideal candidate is able to multi-task effectively, demonstrate strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, exhibit excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, and be proactive in managing the health needs of the school community. Additionally, school nurse and/or pediatric experience preferred. Experience with Magnus Health desirable.
Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Providing health assessments for students and staff with acute injuries and illnesses;
- Reviewing student medical forms through Magnus Health, ensuring that students are properly immunized according to laws and regulations of the District of Columbia;
- Establishing and maintaining a partnership with the DC DOH in appropriate reporting of infectious disease;
- Communicating with parents and school administrators regarding students who are severely ill or injured;
- Reviewing accident reports;
- Maintaining and administering student medication on a daily basis;
- Educating faculty on basics of asthma, diabetes, life threatening food allergies, seizure disorders, blood borne pathogens, Covid-19;
- Training faculty and staff on emergency medical needs such as EpiPens/AEDs;
- Reporting to school leadership any health of safety concerns on campus and in the development of health, emergency, and safety procedures and protocols;
- Participating in the training of summer staff;
- Collaborating with school administrators to further the health and wellness of the community;
- Presenting information to students as needed on topics of safety and hygiene;
- Supporting the school leadership in a school or regional emergency.
The School Nurse must hold a Bachelor's Degree and a valid license in the District of Columbia. All faculty and staff employed by Lab must be fully vaccinated against covid-19 or submit an official medical exemption.
