The McGillis School, an established, independent K-8 school in Salt Lake City, Utah has an opening for a full time Lower School (K-5) Science Teacher beginning in August 2022.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement an inquiry-based, hands-on science curriculum that’s rich and engaging for students of all abilities.
- Collaborate with grade level teams and other specialists to develop an interdisciplinary and experiential curriculum.
- Provide differentiated instruction and work with students to build a positive sense of self, practice a growth mindset, and develop their scientific thinking skills.
- Teach one K-2nd grade each trimester and 3rd-5th grade science year round.
- Create and manage a positive and structured classroom environment.
- Communicate regularly and proactively with students and families; conference with families twice yearly; complete progress reports each trimester.
- Attend weekly faculty meetings.
- Participate in the life of the school by attending school events and performing other duties as assigned.
- Engage in professional development opportunities, as well as in the professional growth model specific to The McGillis School.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have a degree in education or a related field.
- Have a minimum of three years experience teaching or working with children.
- Have a strong interest in science and be familiar with Next Generation Science Standards.
- Be culturally competent and able to build an inclusive and equitable community.
- Demonstrate a professional demeanor with students and colleagues.
- Be comfortable instructing and engaging students both in-person and online.
