SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Network Administrator develops, implements, and maintains Chewonki’s computer infrastructures and provides end-user support and troubleshooting. This person is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the local area network hardware, computer hardware, on-site servers, VoIP phone system, firewall administration, software-network interactions, and enforcing licensing agreements.
The Network Administrator will lead Chewonki in planning and implementing enterprise information systems to improve business operations, promote network integrity and resilience, and ensure cost-effective technology services.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Institutional Growth

- Work as a team member of Technology Services and in support of the greater Chewonki community.
Planning and Development
- Provides strategic direction and oversight for the design, development, operation, and support of IT systems that address the needs of Chewonki, including the full lifecycle of technical architecture, infrastructure engineering, and technical service support
- Drives to implement a strategic Technology Services roadmap that manages short, medium, and long-term objectives
- In collaboration with department managers, analyze the business requirements of all departments to determine their technology needs
- Identify the need for upgrades, configurations, or new systems and present findings
Budget Oversight
- Develops and controls the annual operating and capital expenditure budget for Infrastructure to ensure it is consistent with the overall strategic objectives of Technology Services
- Develop and monitor the approved annual operating and capital budgets for IT systems
Management and Troubleshooting
- Oversees and evaluates system security and backup procedures. Identify security vulnerabilities and eliminate them with strategic solutions that increase data safety.
- Moderates for security purposes Google Groups (e.g., info@chewonki.org, allstaff@chewonki.org, etc.)
- Develops and maintains a system recovery plan in the event of power failure, damage to the system, etc.
- Responsible for the management of multiple information and communications systems and projects. These systems include phones, computers, printers, and networks.
- Responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of all third-party and internally managed IT infrastructure used to support all business processes across the enterprise.
Staff Support and Onboarding
- Proactively develop training materials and deliver training to all staff on how to use devices and systems
- Provide excellent customer service as the primary help desk support for all users (troubleshoot issues related to hardware and complete repairs, install and upgrade software, install peripherals such as printers and scanners, etc.)
System Servicing and Support
- Direct and support implementation of hardware and software upgrades
- Oversee the operation of server systems, including Local Area Network and wifi network
- Active Directory management
- Microsoft Windows 365 management
- Purchase efficient and cost-effective technological equipment and software
- Inspect the use of technology equipment and software to ensure functionality and efficiency
- Maintain accurate inventory of all technology equipment
- Maintain Apple devices (Mac, Apple TV) through MDM JAMF
Vendor Relations
- Assist in building relationships with vendors/contractors and identifying cost-efficient solutions
Policies and Procedures
- Devise and establish Technology Services policies and systems to support the implementation of strategies set by leadership
- Oversee the development, maintenance, and communication of systems documentation, policies, and procedures, including email and laptop use policies for staff and participants
Professional Development
- Stays abreast of the latest trends and technology to keep the organization moving forward with a strategic plan and within a budget
- Work in collaboration with other Technology Services staff and senior leadership to develop a clear understanding of business needs, ensure cost-effective delivery of Technology Services to meet those needs, and respond with agility to changing business priorities.
Committees
- Facilitate or serve on any committee involved in the evaluation or implementation of technology for the organization
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Share the collective responsibility within risk management (physical, behavioral, institutional, etc.) by:
- Using sound judgment
- Operating within your skillset and Chewonki protocols
- Responding to and/ or alerting the appropriate person(s) when you see something that may compromise safety
- Maintain a general understanding of all Chewonki programs, including off-campus facilities.
- Contribute to and collaborate with the Chewonki community through committees and Foundation-wide events.
- Work on the Chewonki campus.
