Annie Wright is seeking an Athletic Trainer and Sports Medicine Teacher to begin on August 1, 2024. This is a full time faculty position that reports directly to the Director of Athletics as well as the Directors of the Upper Schools.

Position description
The Athletic Trainer & Sports Medicine Teacher supervises and organizes the on-campus Trainer’s Room which will undergo a full remodel this summer. The Athletic Trainer is a first responder for acute injuries that occur during practices and games. They provide basic medical assistance for all high impact home contests and travel with away games when necessary. The trainer evaluates, treats, rehabilitates, prevents and manages musculoskeletal injuries. The Athletic Trainer & Sports Medicine Teacher teaches 2 sections of Sports Medicine in the Upper School for Girls and the Upper School for Boys and may also serve as an advisor for an after-school (s)Elective (activity) for students interested in hands-on work in Sports Medicine, thereby bringing the work of athletic trainer to life for students interested in pursuing a career in the field.
The Athletic Trainer & Sports Medicine Teacher is integral in supporting and developing students that embody the school’s mission and vision. As a key member of the Athletics Department, the Athletic Trainer & Sports Medicine Teacher works closely with the Director of Athletics, Assistant Athletic Director, Athletics Facility Manager, and head coaches to ensure that the student-athletes of Annie Wright Schools are receiving the proper attention and treatment (preventative as well as rehabilitation treatment). Additionally, the Athletic Trainer & Sports Medicine Teacher works closely with the Upper Schools Directors and the Director of Student Experience & Global Initiatives to continuously assess the curriculum and review best practices, contributing to the development of students as creative thinkers and problem solvers, enabling them to become life-long learners who are curious about understanding and improving the experience and health of athletes on and off the field.
Position overview: duties & responsibilities
The Athletic Trainer & Sports Medicine Teacher role encompasses two separate and complementary roles:
As Athletic Trainer:
- Oversees and provides support to Upper School, Middle School and Youth athletic practices and games as a healthcare professional;
- Recognizes and evaluates injuries;
- Assists coaching staff and students in preventative measures to minimize injuries;
- Develops and carries out rehabilitation programs for injured athletes;
- Shows empathy and compassion, along with strong sportsmanship;
- Demonstrates the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations;
- Applies protective or injury-preventive devices, such as tape, bandages and braces;
- Inventories medical supplies in training room and med kits;
- Coordinates with other healthcare professionals to establish best care for injured students;
As Sports Medicine Teacher:
- Teaches two Sports Medicine courses in alignment with the mission and philosophy of Annie Wright Schools and with the International Baccalaureate framework;
- Runs an after school (s)Elective in Sports Medicine;
- Implements curriculum based on best practices in teaching, student-centered instruction, and relevant educational technologies;
- Participates actively in after school and extra-curricular programming along with other members of the faculty to understand students outside as well as inside the classroom;
- Fulfills all faculty duties and maintains good communication with families about student progress.
- Fulfills other duties as assigned by their supervisors.
Salary & benefits
This position offers a salary range of $68,000 - $80,000. Benefits available to the hired candidate for the Athletic Trainer position include the following, subject to the terms of the applicable benefit plan:

- A 403(b) retirement plan with a 6% company match with a 3% employee contribution

Qualifications
The Athletic Trainer & Sports Medicine Teacher will demonstrate key elements of the listed expertise and experiences. - Holds a current Athletic Trainer License in Washington state or commensurate qualification and a BA in a related field;

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
