Salary Range: $62,758 to $104,952 annually based on degree and experience

Founded in 1863 by Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV, ‘Iolani School is an Episcopal day and boarding school in Honolulu, Hawai?i enrolling approximately 2,200 students on its K-12, 25-acre urban campus.

Job Summary:
We seek a passionate, collaborative, and reflective Kindergarten Co-Teacher to join our Lower School community. In our co-teaching model, partners are equal collaborators who share full responsibility for the academic, social, and emotional growth of every child. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of early childhood development, strong instructional practice, the flexibility and maturity to work closely with a co-teacher, and a genuine love of teaching young learners within a mission-driven independent school environment.
Essential Responsibilities:
Teaching and Learning:
Partner with a co-teacher to co-plan, co-teach, and co-assess using a variety of co-teaching models to support a diverse range of learners.
Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate, rigorous Kindergarten curriculum across literacy, mathematics, social studies, and social-emotional learning.
Differentiate instruction to support emergent learners, challenge advanced students, and meet the needs of neurodiverse learners.
Use formative and summative assessments to monitor progress, maintain accurate records, and inform instructional decisions.
Contribute to the ongoing review and refinement of the Kindergarten curriculum in alignment with current research and best practices.
Classroom Culture and Student Well-Being:
Foster a joyful, inclusive, and well-structured classroom environment grounded in social-emotional learning practices.
Support the development of empathy, self-regulation, independence, and positive peer relationships.
Community and Collaboration:
Participate actively in meetings (co-teaching, grade-level, divisional) and exhibit an eagerness to engage in productive discussions for the benefit of students.
Participate fully in school life, including committee work, grade-level traditions, admissions processes and events, and occasional community programs held during evenings or weekends.
Family Partnership:
Build strong, trusting relationships with families through clear, timely, and compassionate communication.
Write progress reports and lead parent conferences throughout the year.
Professional Responsibilities:
Demonstrate high professional integrity, emotional intelligence, flexibility, and sound judgment.
Stay current with educational research and engage in ongoing professional growth.
Fulfill supervisory duties, including arrival, recess, lunch, and dismissal.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Education or related discipline, Master’s degree preferred.
Coursework in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field is also preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of full-time teaching experience, specifically with the Kindergarten age group. Prior experience in a co-teaching model is highly desirable.
Experience with balanced literacy, reading assessments, a variety of mathematics curricula, and social-emotional learning frameworks is preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication, proficiency in educational technology, and a willingness to receive feedback are essential.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Ability to see and hear within normal parameters with or without correction.
Full range of head, neck, and back movement; unrestricted ability to bend knees, raise arms above the head, and to move hands, fingers, and wrists.
Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds without difficulty.
Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for sustained periods of time.
Must successfully pass fingerprinting, background checks, and TB clearance due to working in proximity to children.
