We are currently seeking a dynamic and innovative Science/STEM educator to help students embrace science as a tool for understanding the world, pursuing curiosities, and developing critical thinking. This educator will create and develop meaningful, hands-on explorations of scientific concepts, applying critical reasoning and creativity to real-world challenges. Responsibilities:
Develop and implement engaging and student-centered curriculum plans for secondary science classes: General Middle School Science, Biology, Chemistry, and/or Environmental Science
Design and facilitate engaging labs, investigations, fieldwork, and experiential learning; apply a project-based approach that centers inquiry, exploration, and student agency
Additional teaching responsibilities in our elective program and across disciplines, depending upon background and experience
Collaborate with colleagues to develop and innovate curriculum and integrate STEM concepts across disciplines through real-world applications and collaborative projects
Create a positive classroom environment that encourages open dialogue and active participation
Implement current and relevant teaching methods, technologies, and resources and, modify as necessary, to accommodate students learning needs
Manage classroom behavior using restorative practices and contribute to maintaining a respectful and inclusive atmosphere
Maintain clear communication with students, families, and colleagues to support student success
Engage in various facets of student and school life, including co- and extracurricular activities and attend Open Houses and other school events as needed to engage with the school community
Contribute to the ongoing development of TREE’s curriculum and instructional frameworks; participate in professional development and faculty meetings to continuously improve teaching practices
Serve as a positive role model, upholding the mission and values of TREE Academy
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University (Master’s degree preferred)
Teaching credential (preferred but not required)
Relevant content knowledge, with experience in developing science curriculum and pedagogy
Commitment to TREE’s educational philosophy and student-centered approach
Passion for fostering authentic learning experiences for students
Dedication to the whole-person development of young people, including enthusiasm for positive identity development and diversity, equity, and inclusion work
Experience working with diverse learners, including gifted and neurodiverse students
Experience in progressive, competency-based, and experiential education preferred
Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills
Excellent interpersonal skills, including a high degree of cultural competency
Commitment to anti-bias practices in the classroom
Proficient computer skills with Google Workspace and Applications for education
Bonus Qualifications (Not Required):
Experience with environmental science, sustainability, or systems thinking
Comfort with integrating math, coding, or technology into science instruction
Experience mentoring students through independent research or STEM projects
