Reporting to the Lower School Head, The Calverton School in Huntingtown, Maryland is seeking a full-time Lower School Library/Media and Math Support Teacher for the 2026-27 school year. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated teacher to join our dynamic educational team. This teacher will meet with all classes and grade levels PreK-5 for weekly library/media classes and play a crucial role in supporting students who require additional assistance in developing their math skills. The candidate will work collaboratively with administration, teachers, parents, and other support staff to implement effective lessons, intervention strategies and promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that aligns with Calverton’s mission, values, and strategic vision.

• Develop, maintain, and manage library collections

• Design and deliver literacy instruction that creates an engaging reading culture

• Integrate coding and digital literacy skills into lessons using the Code.org platform

• Incorporate robot coding into lessons with K–5 students using Sphero Bolts, Sphero Minis, Botley, and Cooper robots

• Collaborate with teachers and staff to support classroom topics and instruction (e.g., research skills)

• Manage library operations and environment using the Destiny Follett platform

• Support students in finding appropriate reading materials

• Collaborate with other special area teachers for cross-curricular instruction

• Plan and prepare the Scholastic Book Fair each fall

• Plan and prepare Read Across America Week events

• Organize author and illustrator visits to campus

• Maintain accurate records of math intervention sessions and student progress

• Provide regular updates to teachers, parents, and administrators on student growth

• Stay current with research and best practices

• Demonstrate experience and passion for working with lower school students, supporting their academic, social, emotional, and ethical development

• Create a caring library community through strong relationships with students and families

• Provide engaging, diverse, and student-centered learning experiences grounded in strong pedagogy, inquiry, and confidence-building

• Promote principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in curriculum and classroom culture

• Engage actively in professional development with a growth mindset

• Attend all divisional, departmental, and school faculty meetings, including professional development days

• Participate broadly in school life through events, chaperoning, supervision, advising, coaching, class coverage, and club sponsorship

• Bachelor's degree in Education, library/media, Special Education, or related field; Master's degree preferred. • Minimum of 2-4 years teaching experience. • Experience with small group instruction specific to math • Knowledge of multi-sensory teaching methodologies. • Strong organization and time-management skills • Proven experience in providing reading intervention or specialized literacy instruction. • Knowledge of various assessment tools and strategies • Enthusiasm for working with lower school students • Educational philosophy that aligns with the mission, values, and vision of Calverton • Proficient user of technology • Collaborative and effective communication in working with students, teachers, administrators, and families • An ability to contribute positively to a student-centered learning environment • Must pass Federal and State background check along with MSDE Employment History Review
