Village Community School seeks to hire a Learning Specialist for Grades K-4.
This is a 12-month, full-time position, beginning on July 1, 2026.
Salary Range: $80,000-$105,000

The Learning Specialist reports to the Assistant Head of School and plays a vital role in supporting student learning by collaborating with faculty, partnering with families, and contributing to the development of effective learning strategies. As a key member of the Guidance Team, the Learning Specialist provides guidance, makes referrals, leads professional development, and facilitates parent education workshops. Qualified candidates will hold a degree in special education or a related field and have a minimum of three years of relevant experience. Experience supporting a broad range of learning differences at the elementary level is strongly preferred, as is case management experience. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, adept at managing multiple responsibilities, and able to maintain the utmost confidentiality and discretion.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and outside providers to support student learning and development.
Provide faculty with resources, instructional coaching, training, and support to help them address varied learning needs.
Develop instructional materials such as checklists, curriculum resources, and behavior intervention plans.
Review speech, occupational therapy, and IESP summaries. Coordinate with the School Psychologist in the review of neuropsychological evaluations.
Administer in-house assessments as related to both academic and admissions functions.
Document key information from evaluations and outside services and facilitate connections between teachers and providers.
Conduct and document classroom observations; offer feedback on student learning, engagement, and classroom dynamics.
Maintain comprehensive observational notes and assessment records.
Recommend appropriate outside support, including tutors and specialists, for students who need additional services.
Consult and collaborate with the Guidance Team to coordinate referrals and accommodations.
Communicate with external professionals to ensure consistency between in school and outside support strategies.
Meet with families to discuss observations, accommodations, and progress in their child’s learning.
Oversee training staff, test preparation, and administration for MAP testing in Grades 2–4.
Organize and distribute MAP test results to families, teachers, and administrators.
Design and lead parent education workshops on topics related to learning and development.
Facilitate and participate in any necessary DOE meetings and observations.
