Overview:

We are looking for an exceptional and highly qualified educator for a school-wide Speech Coach and Middle School Public Speaking Teacher. The position will begin in August for the 2026-27 school year.

Harvard-Westlake School consists of two campuses--a middle school of 7th, 8th, and 9th grades, and an upper school of 10th. 11th, and 12th grades; interested candidates should have the ability and interest to work with all grade levels, overseeing separate middle and high school speech teams. We are looking for someone with demonstrated knowledge of and passion for coaching competitive speech and classroom teaching.

Job Description:

• Serve as the head coach for our competitive speech teams

• Run effective after-school practice and training sessions at the middle and upper school campuses

• Hire and supervise assistant speech coaches

• Travel with speech team members to competitions

• Teach two sections per quarter of 8th grade Public Speaking class as a member of the Interdisciplinary Studies and Independent Research Department

Faculty Responsibilities Beyond the Classroom:

All full-time faculty are expected to participate actively in the broader life of the school. Responsibilities include:

• Chaperoning a grade-level retreat in October

• Leading an advisory or supervising lunch (twice in the 8-day cycle)

Engaging in school life through admissions, student clubs, affinity groups, service, and other community programs.

Compensation

Anticipated base compensation: $85,000–$115,000, depending on experience.
Start date: August 2026 for the 2026–27 school year.
