Montclare Children's School is seeking an Educational Director for the 2026–2027 school year. This is a full-time, 12-month position with hours of 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The position follows the independent school calendar and includes a generous vacation schedule.
General Description: The Educational Director will assist the Director in the overall management of Montclare Children’s School, an early childhood preschool program serving children ages two through five. The Educational Director will supervise and support teaching staff, oversee curriculum implementation, and serve as a member of the Administrative Team. This role also supports the Director in the day-to-day operations of the school as needed. The Educational Director reports directly to the School Director. Major Responsibilities: • Hire, supervise, evaluate, and provide professional development for classroom and specialist teachers • Support and guide new staff through the onboarding process • Organize and lead staff team meetings • Serve as a liaison between Administration and teaching staff • Review weekly lesson plans and Storypark posts • Oversee curriculum implementation and monitor children’s progress and development • Create and manage school schedules • Meet with teachers and parents to discuss student concerns and support plans • Coordinate substitute teacher coverage • Model effective and developmentally appropriate teaching practices in classrooms • Participate in the admissions process, including applicant child interviews • Collaborate with the Admissions Director and Director on classroom placements • Organize and coordinate field trips and special school programs, including Graduation and the Film Festival • Consult on summer camp programming, classroom placements, and student groupings • Coordinate and approve classroom supply orders • Collaborate with the Administrative Team to review and update school policies, as well as parent and teacher handbooks • Serve as a liaison with the Director of Admissions regarding ongoing school processes • Perform additional duties as needed to support the Director and school community
Qualifications and Training: • Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education • New York State Certification in Early Childhood Education • Minimum of five years of experience as a lead teacher in a program serving children under six years of age Additional Essential Qualifications: The Educational Director must demonstrate: • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills • Integrity, patience, professionalism, and sound judgment • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also working independently with minimal supervision • Sensitivity in handling confidential information • Strong communication skills when interacting with students, parents, faculty, and administrators • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of the school Experience with CPSE is preferred. Additional Requirements: • Ability to climb several flights of stairs throughout the day and move between classrooms • Availability to attend special evening events throughout the school year • Authorization to work in the United States • Successful completion of a fingerprint background check
