JOB DESCRIPTION:
Old Trail School is seeking a Middle School Learning Specialist to join our comprehensive Support Services Team. Our collaborative team includes a Director of Student Wellness and Learning Services (School Psychologist), School Counselor, Learning Specialists, Speech & Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Behavior Analyst, and School Nurse. Together, we work to ensure that each student receives the individualized support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally
The Middle School Learning Specialist will primarily support students in Grades 5–8, with flexibility to assist lower grade levels as necessary. The primary purpose of this role is to provide individualized instruction, behavioral intervention, data-driven progress monitoring, and collaboration with classroom teachers to support students with diverse learning needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Deliver specialized instruction to individual students and small groups using evidence-based strategies
Provide targeted support to students in developing executive functioning skills, including organization, time management, planning, task initiation, and self-monitoring
Partner closely with classroom teachers and the Support Services Team, including providing consultation for classroom based strategies and individualized accommodations and interventions
Develop and implement individualized learning plans and accommodation plans, including writing specific learning goals with measurable outcomes
Ensure consistent implementation of school-wide data collection tools and conduct periodic reviews of student data to inform Response to Support processes and identify students for more targeted intervention, temporary or otherwise
Monitor student progress and communicate effectively with families through phone calls, emails, and in person meetings
Contribute to a proactive, student-centered support model

The candidate may also act as an advisor for eight to ten middle school students and chaperone an overnight class trip with other colleagues. Other duties may include coaching a sport, proctoring study halls, supervising breaks or recess, and filling in for other duties as needed.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
The ideal candidate will have experience delivering small-group and/or one-on-one academic support to students with diverse learning needs. A strong understanding of literacy development, memory, language processing, and executive functioning skills is essential.
The ideal candidate will be able to assess student learning needs; design and implement meaningful intervention plans; monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of those plans; recommend instructional accommodations; partner with families to develop, implement, and monitor individualized support; and provide direct guidance to teachers in developing and implementing those accommodations. Skilled collaboration, flexibility, and creative problem-solving are critical.
CREDENTIALS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Special Education; Master’s degree preferred
Current Ohio teaching license with certification as K-12 Intervention Specialist
At least 3-5 years of professional experience in education or a related field
