Elementary Teacher
The Harley School seeks a full-time early childhood music teacher for the 2026-27 school year. The primary responsibility for the position is teaching music and movement to Nursery (3 and 4-year olds) and Kindergarten students. The Lower School music teacher will have a strong pedagogical approach to teaching music and creative expression, as well as work closely with the classroom teachers and other specialists to integrate content areas, as appropriate. In addition to working with the Lower School faculty, the music teacher will also work closely with all members of the music department, the department chair, and Lower School division head.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Teach N - K Grade music classes
Assist with weekly Lower School Assemblies
Contribute to the musical life of the school
Fulfill duties which support the Lower School (bus duty, faculty meetings, open houses)
Provide written student-progress reports to the school and families at regular intervals
Collaborate on the creation and production of the annual Lower School Pageant
Be involved in the school community at large
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Music Education (or related field); graduate degree preferred
Knowledge of and experience with one or more pedagogical approaches to teaching early childhood music and creative expression (e.g., Dalcroze, Kodály, MLT, Orff, etc.)
Experience teaching 3-5 year olds
Piano proficiency
Commitment to process over product, play-based learning
Respect and appreciation for the idea that all children are musical
Culturally responsive approach to music education and classroom repertoire.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
3+ years of teaching experience
Enthusiastic about collaborative learning; creative and innovative when working with diverse learners and faculty.
Salary Range:
$47,000 - $70,000, based on experience.
