The Opportunity
Are you a visionary educator who sees the classroom not just as a place for instruction, but as a laboratory for discovery? Woodlawn School is seeking a Creative and Collaborative Thought Designerto join our Middle and Upper School teams. We are looking for an individual who is deeply inspired by the curiosity, creativity, and keen wonderment of students and who thrives in a community of forward-thinking, creative colleagues.
At Woodlawn, we believe that Science, Math, and Engineering are best learned when they are integrated, inquiry-based, and hands-on. This role is designed for a builder of ideas—someone who can bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and real-world application.
The Role
As a Thought Designer, you will be the architect of learning experiences that challenge students to think critically and design boldly. You will play a pivotal role in our brand-new, state-of-the-art Inquiry Lab, serving as a bridge between our Middle School curiosity and our Upper School STEM excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Implement: Create and lead a dynamic curriculum spanning Math, Science, and Engineering Design that prioritizes inquiry and project-based learning.
Collaborate: Partner with Middle and Upper School STEM faculty to ensure a cohesive and innovative "Design Thinking" vertical alignment.
Inspire: Cultivate a classroom environment that celebrates the "keen wonderment" of our students, encouraging them to ask "Why?" and "How?"
Innovate: Utilize our Inquiry Lab to facilitate hands-on engineering challenges, scientific experimentation, and mathematical modeling.
Who You Are
We are looking for a teammate who is more than a traditional instructor. You are an ideal fit if:
You are a Life-Long Learner: You are energized by new technologies, pedagogical shifts, and the evolving landscape of STEM education.
You Value Community: You thrive in a collaborative environment where cross-disciplinary projects are the norm, not the exception.
You are Student-Centric: You view student curiosity as the ultimate curriculum driver.
You are an Experienced Practitioner: You possess a strong background in teaching Math, Science, Engineering, or integrated STEM programs.
Qualifications
A degree in Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Demonstrated experience in curriculum design and inquiry-based instruction.
Proficiency in utilizing lab spaces and maker-technologies to enhance student learning.
Exceptional communication skills and a desire to contribute to a vibrant school culture.
Why Woodlawn?
Woodlawn School offers a unique environment where the campus itself is a classroom. Our community is built on trust, innovation, and a shared passion for seeing every student succeed. You will work alongside colleagues who are equally inspired by the "what if" and who are dedicated to preparing students for a future that requires both technical expertise and creative empathy.
Join us in shaping the next generation of thinkers, designers, and problem solvers.
How to Apply: Please submit your resume, a cover letter expressing your philosophy on "Thought Design," and any portfolio pieces highlighting student-centered project to hello@woodlawnschool.org.
