Main Purpose of the Role:
The Director of Curriculum & Instruction is a 12-month position responsible for managing all areas of the School’s academic program, analyzing learning data, envisioning new ways forward, and communicating with key constituencies about Cathedral School’s academic strength, status, and future.
To this end, the Director of Curriculum & Instruction works in partnership with the Head of School, Division Directors, and Cathedral’s talented teachers to assemble and implement a vibrant, modern, and rigorous academic program that harmonizes the curriculum and academic experience of students across the School’s nine grades. The Director of Curriculum & Instruction will also help lead the development and implementation of areas of strategic programmatic focus, including Humanities, STEAM, and student leadership development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Working with faculty and administrators to develop and implement a robust academic program that appropriately sequences each area of the school’s curriculum from kindergarten through eighth grade.
Managing Cathedral’s three-year curriculum review cycle, with faculty-wide focus on learning standards, instructional practices, or assessment, depending upon the year.
Managing Cathedral’s approach to faculty recruitment, onboarding, classroom observations (administrative and peer), and professional development.
Communicating with a variety of constituencies and stakeholders to articulate and promote the strength and direction of the school’s academic program.
Working with staff to implement annual student testing cycles and analyzing testing data to understand the learning needs of individual students and to assess the caliber of the school’s overall academic performance relative to other high-achieving independent schools.
Devising systems and metrics to ensure that Cathedral’s academic program is delivering student learning outcomes at a high level.
Understanding the general curricula and placement expectations of the various high schools to which Cathedral graduates matriculate and, as appropriate, using this information to help craft Cathedral’s middle school program.
Managing and directing the school’s Learning Services
Presenting at regional and national conferences and contributing to publications in educational magazines and journals in an effort to share with other educators and to promote Cathedral’s reputation within the independent school community.
Remaining informed and updated regarding new developments in education, curriculum, and instruction and designing effective methods for keeping teachers informed of these developments and working toward best practice.

Experience
5+ years of teaching experience at a high-achieving independent, public, or charter school, preferably at both the elementary and middle school levels
7+ years of demonstrated success in the development, articulation, and implementation of elementary and middle school curricula
Prior Knowledge
Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, including Google Classroom
Working knowledge of Blackbaud
Working knowledge of various learning management systems (LMS)
