About Independence Academy
Independence Academy is a fully accredited, non-profit, private school located in Indianapolis, Indiana, serving autistic students in grades 3 through 12.
We seek a dedicated Business Manager to oversee our financial, operational, and fundraising activities to ensure the school's continued success and sustainability.
Position Summary
The Business Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial health, operational efficiency, and advancement efforts of Independence Academy. This role requires strong skills in accounting, budgeting, facilities management, and fundraising. The ideal candidate will possess a combination of financial acumen, strategic thinking, and operational oversight to support the school’s long-term goals.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Accounting
Provide tuition recommendations and forecasts to support strategic planning and financial sustainability.
Develop, manage, and oversee the annual budget in collaboration with school leadership and the Board of Directors.
Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with applicable financial reporting standards.
Process and monitor invoices, bills, payroll, and other financial transactions.
Prepare and present financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow analysis.
Oversee audits and tax filings.
Operations & Facilities Management
Manage and coordinate school facilities maintenance and repairs, ensuring a safe and functional learning environment.
Work with vendors, contractors, and service providers to ensure timely and cost-effective facility operations.
Oversee procurement of supplies and equipment, ensuring efficient resource allocation.
Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to improve school efficiency.
Fundraising, Advancement & Grant Management
Identify and pursue grant opportunities to support school programs and initiatives.
Manage grant applications, compliance, and reporting requirements.
Support fundraising efforts, including donor relations, sponsorships, and special events.
Work closely with school leadership to develop and execute advancement strategies to enhance financial sustainability.
Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements related to financial and operational activities.
Maintain appropriate insurance coverage for the school’s operations.
Implement internal controls to mitigate financial and operational risks.
Compensation
Salary range: $55,000-$65,000, commensurate with experience.

Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in financial management, budgeting, and operations, preferably within a non-profit or educational institution.
Proficiency in QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, and other financial management software.
Experience with grant writing, grant compliance, and fundraising strategies.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with school leadership, staff, donors, and community members.
