The Educational Technology Specialist serves as a key instructional partner, supporting faculty within their designated division (K-8 or High School) in the effective implementation and daily integration of educational technologies, including AI tools, educational software, and digital resources.
Reporting directly to the Director of Educational Technology, the Specialist focuses on the practical application of the school’s mission, values, K-12 Learning Outcomes, and strategic plan. This role works hands-on with teachers to enhance curriculum and pedagogy through technology, ensuring that digital tools are used effectively to improve student engagement and learning outcomes. The ideal candidate will be passionate about education and skilled in the logistics of integrating technology in a classroom setting. Job duties and responsibilities are included but not limited to:
Instructional Coaching & Classroom Support:
Collaborate with the Director of Educational Technology to execute priorities and ongoing projects within the division.
Work directly with specific grade levels, departments, and sub-departments to assist teachers in implementing a curriculum that effectively utilizes educational technology, including Generative AI tools and other emergent technologies as well as standard EdTech tools.
Support teachers in designing and executing lesson plans that integrate effective use of Generative AI tools and other digital technologies.
Act as a responsive resource for faculty and students, helping them leverage tools essential for educational settings.
Serve as project manager and/or subject matter expert overseeing technical classroom projects, such as implementations of new hardware, software, or standardization of processes.
Training & Professional Development:
Lead training and professional development for faculty on technology tools, software updates, and best practices for digital learning.
Facilitate workshops and create opportunities for faculty to share their work, resources, and ideas with one another.
Assist in developing and running summer professional development opportunities for faculty.
Promote Generative AI literacy and responsible use of technology among students and staff.
Support new faculty orientation training (e.g., classroom hardware, communication tools, SIS/LMS, software request process, etc.)
Under the direction of the Director of Educational Technology, complete research on emerging classroom technologies.
Tool Management & Operations:
Play an active role in identifying possible tools and collaborating with the IT Department to test them for functionality and security/privacy compliance.
Managing existing technology tools, including but not limited to: Apple Software Applications; Blackbaud SIS, Canvas LMS / Canvas integrations, Canvas Studio, Canva for Education, EduPlanet, IXL, Google AI Pro (Gemini), Google Workspace for Education, Learning A-Z, Lexia, MagicSchool AI, Raz Kids, Seesaw, Turnitin
Manage the administration and logistical scoping of approved digital tools, including contracts, subscriptions, and the effective use of software licenses.
Provide regular communication to the community about available tools and practical ways to use them in daily work.
Maintain knowledge of educational technology trends to ensure the school’s toolset remains current and relevant.
Provide oversight and maintenance of educational technology effectiveness systems (e.g., Learn Platform).
Assessment & Community:
Assist the administration in assessing the efficacy of technology in the classroom by documenting usage and collecting case studies for analysis.
Collaborate with stakeholders to sustain a responsive program for student digital citizenship and AI education.
Support opportunities for parents to learn about the technologies being utilized in classrooms.
Professional Research
Keeps abreast of technology and instructional best practices that relate to the effective use of technology in education.
Researches and pilots current and emerging technologies to determine applicability in a differentiated learning environment.
In collaboration with academic leaders and with consultation with the Director of Educational Technology, researches, reviews, and recommends the selection and acquisition of emerging technologies, online subscriptions and resources, software and hardware that effectively support education program/curricular goals.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education or related field. Master’s preferred.
Five (5) years of classroom teaching experience with a proven record of integrating technology to improve student outcomes.
Proven experience in the practical integration of educational technology in a classroom setting, including Canvas LMS, Blackbaud SIS, and Google Workspace for Education.
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Knowledge of current trends in educational technology, AI, and digital learning environments.
Ability to work collaboratively with teachers to troubleshoot and refine technology-enhanced lessons.
