Upper School Spanish Teacher

Position Summary
Newton Country Day School of the Sacred Heart seeks a dynamic world language educator for its Upper School, specializing in Spanish instruction. This position requires a versatile instructor capable of teaching across grades 7-12, committed to supporting diverse learning needs and to serving in a highly relational learning environment.
Position Requirements
- Develop a comprehensive Spanish curriculum for high school students
- Teach four sections of Spanish language courses at levels ranging from Beginners through Advanced Placement
- Provide individualized student support and accessible extra help
- Design adaptive learning strategies for varied student abilities
- Assess academic progress through personalized evaluation
- Foster independent linguistic and critical thinking skills
- Collaborate with faculty to enhance language learning experiences and participate actively in a team-based culture of collegiality
- Engage in ongoing professional growth and development
- Participate actively in the life of the wider school community by serving as an advisor for up to eight students, a moderator for a grade level, and a moderator for a co-curricular student activity; participating in weekly community time (announcements, chapel, class meeting); attending occasional evening and weekend events; and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Spanish or related field (advanced degree preferred)
- Near bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English
- Minimum three years of classroom teaching experience
- Strong pedagogical skills for language instruction
- Exceptional student engagement and support capabilities
- Commitment to inclusive, student-centered learning approaches
- Demonstrated ability to develop individualized learning strategies and flexibility in teaching methodology
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Alignment with the Sacred Heart educational mission to educate the whole child
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- This role requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment.
- It demands mobility for tasks such as reaching, holding, touching, pushing, and lifting.
- The job typically involves 25% sitting, 25% walking, and 50% standing, performed in a generally hazard-free environment with minimal temperature variations.
- Depending on the classroom assignment, the role may require relocating between classrooms throughout the day, including ascending and descending stairs.
- Occasionally, extended hours are necessary, including after school, evenings, and weekends.
- Newton Country Day's campus consists of multiple buildings, playing fields, and outdoor learning spaces, connected by external walkways and stairs. This position requires moving between these areas in all weather conditions.
Compensation:
- $63,000-131,000 based on experience
