Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and student-centered teacher for its Lower School for the 2026-27 school year. Calvert School inspires each child to lead a life of purpose by providing a strong foundation in academic skills and character development. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland. The campus is easily accessible from Charles Street and I-83.
The Assistant Teacher will support lead teachers in Kindergarten and Pre-First classrooms while also planning and delivering developmentally appropriate art instruction for students in these grades. Art is fully integrated into the daily curriculum of our Kindergarten Age students. In Pre-First students have formal art instruction at least once per week. The ideal candidate will foster a nurturing, engaging, and creative learning environment.
In addition to managing the daily affairs of a homeroom, teachers communicate frequently with parents and collaborate with their grade level team members to develop and teach curriculum that is motivating and age appropriate. Faculty members are expected to contribute to the Calvert community as field trip chaperones, coaches, and club advisors, and will serve on school committees on occasion.
Responsibilities will include the following:
Support lead teachers in implementing daily lessons and classroom activities aligned with the school’s curriculum and philosophy.
Assist in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
Provide individual and small-group support to students to reinforce learning concepts.
Supervise students during classroom activities, recess, lunch, and classroom transitions to ensure a safe and positive environment.
Design and implement developmentally appropriate and engaging art lessons.
Help maintain a clean, organized, and inviting classroom.
Communicate effectively and positively with children, parents, and colleagues.
Participate in team meetings, professional development, and school events as required.
Maintain accurate records, write progress reports, and participate in conferences.
Participate in ongoing professional development.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall functioning of the classroom and school community.
Job qualifications are below:
Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, elementary education, or art education.
Prior experience teaching early elementary-aged students strongly preferred.
Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
Creative, patient, and passionate about nurturing young learners.
Calvert School offers a competitive salary and benefits package. Salaries for teachers are based on years of teaching experience, education, and job-related responsibilities. The salary range for teachers is $45,000 to $55,000 and candidates with additional teaching experience and/or advanced degrees may receive a higher salary. Calvert School offers medical, prescription, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement plans. Teachers also receive generous leave that includes paid holidays, sick, and personal leave days.
