PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Athenian School seeks an Upper School Physics Teacher for the 2026-27 school year. This teacher will teach three physics classes plus an additional section of science or math. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong passion for science education, the skills to create innovative and engaging project-based curriculum, and desire to work with upper school students. They will also have had experience with, or be interested in learning about, the design and implementation of alternative grading practices. Candidates should also be able to exhibit a passion for experiential education, which is a cornerstone of our school's program. Additionally, candidates should be drawn to Athenian's Pillars: Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership, and Service. Successful candidates will also bring experience with differentiated, experiential, and culturally responsive teaching practices.

We seek candidates with excellent classroom management skills and experience teaching high school science. Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in science or a valid teaching credential in the sciences. The ability to teach other emerging and interdisciplinary subjects, and experience in curriculum design, would be a plus.
In addition to these responsibilities, faculty have the opportunity to coach a sport for a supplemental stipend.
BENEFITS, COMPENSATION, PROFESSIONAL GROWTH & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Athenian provides excellent benefits and salaries are competitive and commensurate with work experience and education. Community members enjoy meals on campus and use of athletics facilities, including a pool, gym and fitness center. Our full time faculty salary range is $82,000-150,000. Additionally, faculty receive additional stipends for completed Masters and Doctoral degrees.
All employees participate in school wide professional development, and have the opportunity to pursue a range of additional professional growth opportunities. These include, but are not limited to, funded participation in professional conferences and continuing education opportunities. Athenian provides needed training for CPR/AED certification.
All employees are expected to attend all-school functions relevant to their role and to participate in supporting the student experience with other school duties as requested by their direct supervisor.
