Shady Hill School is looking for a Learning Resources Director to join our Lower School team beginning with the 2026-2027 school year. The Learning Resources Director oversees academic support services for Lower School students, and advises and collaborates with administrators, faculty and families on student progress, support plans and evaluation recommendations. This is a full-time, in-person, exempt (salaried), 10.5 month position with paid time off during school vacations and over the summer.
Core Responsibilities:
Support Lower School Students, Families and Faculty
Coach, advise, and support faculty on differentiated instruction and curriculum best practices
Meet with teachers to discuss students' learning profiles and accommodations
Attend all grade-level individuals meetings on students
Attend family conferences on student progress as needed
Lead meetings with families as needed to coordinate student support, accommodations and interventions
Visit classrooms and conduct observations of students and teachers
Provide additional small group student support as needed
Provide guidance during grade level sectioning meetings
Manage Student Assessments and Support Plans
Manage student database with assessment data and learning accommodations
Oversee the implementation of grade-wide reading assessments
Conduct student evaluations as necessary (including DIAL and other assessments)
Coordinate external formal evaluations with families and evaluators
Determine Student Support Plans
Coordinate related services such as speech and language and occupational therapy
Organize resources to meet individual student needs and accommodations
Oversee the administration of standardized assessments (such as True Progress) and analyze the results
Manage Lower School Learning Resources Staff
Oversee hiring, supervision, evaluation, and professional development of Lower School Literacy Specialists, Learning Specialists, and Tutors
Plan and facilitate Learning Resources department meetings
Monitor student progress in tutoring and small group
Meet regularly with reading and learning specialists
Oversee, edit and distribute student reading group and tutoring reports (3x year)
Represent the Learning Resources Department internally and externally
Educate parents on topics related to child development, neurodiversity, academic and social/emotional learning
Lead parent neurodiversity affinity group
Serve on curricular, behavioral, and hiring committees as needed
Leadership
Serve as a member of the LS Student Support Team
In partnership with the MS Learning Resources Director, lead the faculty and LR department B-8 with the implementation of best practices, vertical alignment and sequencing of skills
Collaborate with the Division Head to oversee the Lower School reading and writing curriculum
Assist Director of Admission with aspects of Lower School admissions including screenings of applicants, training screeners, parent admission meetings as needed, reading LS admission applications as needed
In addition, the LS Learning Resources Director will share in responsibilities associated with the position or with membership on the administration including supervision of student activities, participating in special events and outreach programs, as well as lunch and recess supervision.
Qualifications:
3+ years of lower school classroom teaching experience preferred
Master’s Degree required, preferably in Special Education and/or Moderate Learning Disabilities
Experience in administrating, analyzing, and interpreting formal and informal student assessments
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Effective, timely, and professional communication skills
Employs multicultural, anti-bias, antiracist teaching strategies that reflect cultural competence
The salary range for this position is $105,000 to $120,000, depending on experience.
