Science Department Chair and MS/US Science Teacher
The Brimmer and May School, an all-gender independent day school in Chestnut Hill, MA, is seeking an experienced, collaborative full-time Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The position involves teaching Upper and/or Middle Science classes and serving as an Upper School advisor.
The ideal candidate will possess a BS in a science-related field, a Master’s degree, and over 5 years of experience. They should have a passion for working with students, both in and out of the classroom. We seek someone with a growth mindset who can effectively integrate emerging technologies into their teaching, pursue professional development, support the school's mission, create student-centered learning experiences, and demonstrate a collaborative spirit. The ideal candidate will be eager to explore how AI tools can support differentiated instruction, foster creativity, and enhance students’ research and analytical skills—while maintaining a strong focus on the ethical and responsible use of these tools—and will be committed to applying culturally responsive pedagogy aligned with the school's DEIB goals and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching Responsibilities
Teach five sections of Middle and/or Upper School science.
Design and implement engaging, hands-on instruction that supports diverse learners.
Clearly communicate expectations, assignments, and feedback to students and families.
Utilize digital tools and school-supported technologies to enhance instruction and learning.
Provide extra help and meet with students outside scheduled class time as needed.
Maintain classroom culture that supports curiosity, collaboration, and academic integrity.
Advising & Community Responsibilities
Serve as an Upper School advisor and maintain regular communication with students, families, and the Student Support Team.
Participate in advisory activities, assemblies, and community-building programs.
Supervise study halls, lunch, and break duties as assigned.
Serve as a club advisor or equivalent.
Participate in field trips, Winterim/Exploration Week, and division-wide programs.
Engage fully in school community life, including events, performances, open houses, and celebrations.
Professional Responsibilities
Participate in all faculty meetings, workdays, trainings, and required safety drills.
Maintain accurate records, including attendance, grades, comments, and necessary documentation.
Communicate regularly with division heads regarding student concerns and curricular needs.
Pursue ongoing professional development and demonstrate reflective practice.
Contribute positively to school culture, modeling Brimmer’s mission and core values.
Salary Range - $60,000-$105,000 commensurate with experience
