McDonogh School is looking for a dynamic educator that has the ability to teach 5th - 8th grade science, is interested in STEM, project-based learning, and 21st century skills. The ideal candidate will help students grow, think deeply, make connections, engage in meaningful learning, and develop understanding of science. This teacher will be joining a community of committed, passionate, and innovative teachers and students. Essential Functions
Inspire, engage, and encourage students in the study of Science as they develop their knowledge of the scientific process through hands-on learning
Serve as an advisor; contribute to the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth of adolescents
Work collaboratively with colleagues both inside and outside the Science department
Use professional growth opportunities to continually refine practice
Respond to the needs of the School, including but not limited to, service learning, coaching, attending off campus field trips, assigned duties, and other areas as determined by the Middle School Head
Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Education. Master’s Degree (preferred, but not required).
Additional Experience
Demonstrated ability to collaborate and create engaging interdisciplinary units, projects, and/or courses
Demonstrated expertise regarding the subject matter
Experience with Google (Docs/Sheets/Apps/Email)
Experience with interdisciplinary teaching
Experience working in a student-centered learning environment, with practical experience with problem- and project-based learning, as well as integrated learning
Prior experience teaching biology and environmental science is preferred
Prior experience teaching middle school science

Must have proven problem solving skills, be self motivated, and adaptable
Working Conditions
Bending. Evening and weekend hours may be required from time to time. Lifting and carrying of equipment is not typical, but may be required on rare occasions. Lifting up to 25 pounds. Other working conditions include climbing stairs, walking around campus, sitting, standing, and significant computer use including extensive close use of a computer monitor. Reaching, grasping. Working in outside weather conditions.
