Inly School seeks a dedicated and reflective Children’s House Lead Teacher to support our Montessori Children’s House program starting in August 2026. The Children’s House Lead Teacher plays a central role in providing a warm, stimulating, and respectful learning environment that nurtures each child’s (Ages 3-6) development to their fullest potential.
Inly School is an independent PreK–8 Montessori-plus School located in Scituate, MA that serves over 200 students from 20 South Shore towns and is deeply rooted in Montessori, child-centered, and inclusive educational practices. At Inly, our Montessori+ practices inspire an inclusive community of learners to explore and shape themselves and the world with joyful curiosity, courage, and compassion. All children must be treated with respect and dignity, with their self-esteem as individuals held as a paramount concern. Learning is emphasized through professional practice that values process leading to product, fostering competence, confidence, and self-worth.
Position Structure
The Children’s House Lead Teacher assists in managing a Montessori Children’s House classroom and works collaboratively with colleagues to design, implement, and continuously improve the program in alignment with Inly School’s strategic objectives and Montessori core values.
As a member of the Inly School staff, the teacher is expected to assist in carrying out the mission of the school, advocate for the school community, and offer input whenever opportunities for improvement arise. Faculty share responsibility for the success of the school.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver a comprehensive Montessori and Inly-adopted curriculum aligned with Montessori core values and school priorities.
Collaborate with colleagues to design, implement, and refine age-appropriate instruction, including enhanced literacy.
Maintain a prepared environment that supports independence, concentration, and exploration.
Observe, assess, and document student progress to inform individualized instruction.
Support the whole child through emotionally responsive, respectful, and developmentally appropriate practices.
Work collaboratively in instruction, classroom management, transitions, recess, and family communication.
Supervise students during daily routines, outdoor play, arrivals, dismissals, and field studies.
Participate in interviews, meetings, professional development, and Shared Learning Communities, as appropriate.
Utilize school resources and collaborate with Learning Services to support student needs.
Assist with school-wide duties and adhere to expectations outlined in the Employee and Classroom Handbooks.
Strong Candidates Will Have
A Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s Degree preferred
Montessori experience preferred
A minimum of three years of teaching experience preferred
A strong understanding of the developmental attributes of Children’s House–aged students
Sensitivity to cultural and ethnic diversity and the ability to foster an inclusive classroom environment
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
A collaborative mindset and openness to feedback and professional growth
An innovative approach that embraces and celebrates unique learning opportunities
The ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
Working Expectations
Your role is essential in nurturing and developing young children and supporting the broader school community. Expectations for this dynamic position include:
Stationary and Active Balance: This role requires a balance between focused, stationary work (lesson delivery, observation, documentation) and active engagement throughout the classroom and school environment.
Mobility and Resource Utilization: Inly School’s 13-acre campus includes multiple buildings. The ability to move throughout the campus to access classrooms, outdoor spaces, and school resources is essential.
Clear and Effective Communication: Faculty are expected to communicate information and ideas clearly and professionally with colleagues, students, and families, recognizing that every interaction is a teaching and learning opportunity.
Physical Involvement: The role regularly involves physical activity, including lifting materials and occasionally lifting children weighing up to 30 pounds, as needed to support care, safety, and educational activities.
Outdoor Activities Engagement: Daily outdoor experiences are an integral part of the Montessori curriculum. Faculty must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions while supporting children’s learning and safety.
Participation in School Life: Attendance is expected at school community events such as Back-to-School Night, Open Houses, Curriculum Nights, New Parent Orientation and Reception, Graduation, and other events as requested by program leadership.
Professional Growth and Collaboration: Ongoing participation in professional development, observations in other Inly environments, Shared Learning Communities, and pedagogical collaboration is expected unless job requirements do not allow.
