The mission of Girls Preparatory School (GPS) is to inspire each girl to lead a life of integrity and purpose by engaging her mind, cultivating her strengths, and nurturing her self-confidence and respect for others. Currently, 130 faculty and staff serve approximately 500 girls in grades six through 12 with a college preparatory curriculum that includes a full complement of courses in the humanities, STEM, the arts, and more, as well as a rich and varied cocurricular program.
GPS prioritizes healthy connections and relationships, fostering a culture where each girl is known, heard, and empowered to use her voice. This culture of acceptance and belonging nurtures and lifts her up in mind, body, and spirit so that she can find her place and discover her potential with confidence and joy for dynamic engagement in a rapidly changing world.

Teaching Position Summary
Girls Preparatory School seeks an excellent teacher who is excited to take a learner-centered approach to engaging, supporting, and challenging GPS students in English classes within our Humanities department. The ideal candidate will be skilled with literary analysis and writing instruction and possess enthusiasm for teaching a range of students in grades 9 and above.
Our faculty strives to create personalized class environments that are responsive to girls’ academic and individual needs. Being a teacher at GPS means working in an inclusive team setting, where shared ideas and constructive feedback are the fabric of our faculty culture. We seek a teacher whose daily instructional plans and broader curricular design are authentic, equitable, competency-based, and reflective of 21st-century learning best practices. Through high engagement, interdisciplinary connections, and learning activities that build critical thinking and problem-solving in students, the teacher in this role will offer a vibrant and relational experience for GPS students.
Teaching Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Division Heads and the Humanities Department Chair, English faculty are expected to:
Design and maintain a classroom environment that supports girls’ academic and personal growth;
Plan, develop, and execute lessons that reflect the English curriculum and adapt to the needs of students as they progress;
Establish effective rapport with students within a supportive and equitable classroom culture;
Implement a variety of learner-centered pedagogical approaches to instruction and assessment;
Evaluate and communicate student progress;
Differentiate instruction to support varied learners;
Collaborate with learning support specialists in order to meet the needs of students with learning differences;
Serve as an advisor to a group of 10–12 students;
Contribute to school life by sponsoring a club, offering an after-school activity, coaching, or some other method based on faculty interest;
Attend and participate in departmental and conference meetings, committing to professional development and the professional life of the faculty; and
Use outstanding and varied written and verbal communication skills to partner with students, families, and colleagues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in English, education, or related field required;
Advanced degree in a relevant discipline preferred;
Two to five years of English teaching experience at the secondary and/or post secondary level preferred; and
