Chatham Hall seeks a dynamic and student-centered leader for the Assistant Director of Student and Community Life position. As a member of the Administrative Leadership Team, this role plays a key part in shaping the student experience by partnering with the Director of Student and Community Life, Director of the Health Care Center, Director of Counseling Services, dorm advisors, the Student Activities and Club Coordinator, student leaders, and other key stakeholders. The Assistant Director helps lead initiatives that strengthen residential life, promote student health and wellness, and foster meaningful engagement in service and campus life, all while upholding the School’s Honor Code, Purple and Gold Rule, and Civil Discourse Statement. Through thoughtful program development and strong community partnerships, the Assistant Director supports students as they grow into confident leaders and engaged community members, equipping curious thinkers to lead lives of purpose and impact.
Working in close partnership with the Director of Student and Community Life, the Assistant Director supports the broader Chatham Hall community by helping cultivate a healthy, inclusive, and accountable residential environment. Through a visible and relational presence, the Assistant Director partners with students and colleagues to navigate day-to-day challenges, reinforce community expectations, and foster a vibrant residential experience where students feel supported and empowered. This role requires regular engagement in the life of the community, including evening and weekend responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
Model Chatham Hall's mission and philosophy through personal actions and by leading programs and teams that reflect these values.
Partner with the Director of Student and Community Life, administrators, faculty, and staff to cultivate a positive, respectful, and supportive school culture.
Lead and implement Chatham Hall’s residential life program, guiding dorm advisors to ensure alignment with the school’s mission and values.
Lead, develop, and implement the student Health and Wellness program, including teaching Chatham 101 and 401, and ensure these initiatives align with student development goals.
Support the Student and Community Life Office in addressing student decision-making, attendance, and accountability to promote agency, responsibility, and leadership. Communicate expectations clearly, deliver constructive feedback, and maintain consistent follow-up.
Collaborate with the Director of Student and Community Life and other stakeholders to support advisory programming activities.
Oversee the Community Life Service League and student organizations, creating opportunities for girls to develop their voice, leadership skills, and commitment to service.
Assist the Director of Student and Community Life in planning and executing orientation at the start of the school year.
Support student clubs, organizations, leadership roles, and the student elections process in partnership with the Director of Student and Community Life and the Student Activities and Club Coordinator.
Undertake delegated duties from the Director of Student and Community Life, ensuring clear communication regarding scope, deadlines, and expected outcomes.
Partner with the Director of Student and Community Life to oversee off-campus permissions.
Enhance the student experience by serving as an advisor, class sponsor, weekend duty team member, and fulfilling residential life responsibilities.
The ability to contribute to Chatham Hall’s academic and afternoon programs and serve as a Lead Dorm Advisor is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will support both classroom and residential life.
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
Experience in residential life, boarding schools, or similar environments, with a demonstrated commitment to supporting diverse student development and fostering inclusion.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate at all levels. Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining professionalism and a sense of humor.
Demonstrate a commitment to supporting each student’s development by helping them achieve their goals, engage in the Chatham Hall community, and build authenticity, confidence, and personal agency.
Exhibit enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively at both strategic and operational levels with all constituents.
Balance the position’s responsibilities and demands professionally while maintaining a sense of humor.
