Position Summary:
The ideal candidate will be passionate about fostering the next generation of innovative thinkers and equipping students with the skills necessary for success in the rapidly evolving world of business, banking, finance, and entrepreneurship. We seek dynamic individuals who are collaborative and creative in their approach to teaching and who work to establish an inclusive and supportive classroom and support the development of our school-wide culture. Qualified candidates will have experience teaching a variety of subjects related to Business and Entrepreneurial Studies, as well as working in a “makerspace,” in which students will have an opportunity to develop new products and ideas in order to support their classroom instruction.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supports the creation and implementation of student-centered activities and units of inquiry that contribute to a classroom climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences that inspire critical thinking, creativity, problem solving, and communication.
Prepares course materials, such as homework assignments, projects, and assessments, that support comprehensive and engaging curricula covering fundamental principles of entrepreneurship, business planning, marketing, financial literacy, economic theory and practices, and/or other relevant topics.
Provides students with ongoing and constructive feedback about their work in a way that encourages continuous improvement and a growth mindset using guided self-evaluation, peer evaluation, criterion-based rubrics, and/or other assessment tools.
Plans, evaluates, and revises course content, course materials, and methods of instruction to be sure curricula reflects current business practices and industry trends.
Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment, to share insights and innovative teaching strategies, and to align their work with others in the Social Studies Department, as well as with courses in other departments for interdisciplinary instruction.
Cultivates relationships with local businesses, entrepreneurs, and community organizations to provide enriching experiential opportunities for students, including engaging guest speakers and insightful industry visits.
Actively engages families and others in the broader community to showcase student achievements and promote the importance of entrepreneurial education.
Serves as a mentor for students and student groups or clubs, including DECA, that are interested in entrepreneurial ventures, offering support, advice, and resources.
Participates in professional development to be sure educational best practices and industry developments are integrated into their courses.
Implements inquiry-based instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences
Prepares course material such as syllabi, course overviews, unit plans, homework assignments, and assessments, ensuring completion of the curriculum
Provides students with ongoing and effective feedback about their work which includes group and peer critique, guided self evaluation and criterion based rubrics
Plans, evaluates, and revises curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction with guidance from the Department Chair
Maintains effective and timely record keeping procedures using educational technology
Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis
Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment
Uses effective classroom management techniques to ensure students are working in an environment conducive to learning
Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits, such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and coordinating activities
Maintains expertise in subject matter through professional development
Stays current with technology advances and incorporates technology in the classroom
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; Master’s degree preferred
Demonstrated success teaching students in an independent school or similar setting
Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a team of educators
Experience in facilitating opportunities for students to publish and share their entrepreneurial work with an authentic external audience, such as through successful participation in business pitch events, portfolio competitions, and/or extracurricular club activities
Experience integrating technology into teaching practices, including Google Suite for Education preferred
Effective communication and presentation skills
Strong work ethic
Commitment to a growth mindset and continuous professional development
Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive work environment
Physical Demands: Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, and for the majority of the work day. May be required to lift up to 25lbs.
