About the Role
As we celebrate our 175th anniversary in the 2025-26 school year, we are seeking a dynamic 4th Grade Teacher to join our hard-working and fun-loving team. Our ideal candidate is an expert at inspiring curiosity and critical thinking, guiding students to move beyond "what" and "how" into the deeper "why" of the world around them. By prioritizing hands-on teaching and experiential learning, you will help create an environment where students learn to try new things, to spread their wings and stretch their limits.

Job Responsibilities of a 4th Grade Teacher:
Operating as a cohesive partnership, our two fourth-grade homeroom teachers share collective responsibility for the care and development of all students. By specializing in distinct curricular areas, each teacher provides deep subject-matter expertise while maintaining a shared commitment to ensure every student benefits from specialized instruction while remaining part of a unified, supportive grade-level community.
Instructional Leadership & Pedagogical Mastery
Curriculum Excellence: Design and execute a dynamic, inquiry-based 4th grade program that aligns with school philosophy while ensuring rigorous coverage of grade-level benchmarks.
Grade-Level Expertise: Serve as a subject-matter expert in 4th-grade pedagogy, leading the development of assessments and instructional strategies.
Inclusive Instruction: Implement sophisticated differentiation strategies to meet a wide spectrum of learner profiles, ensuring every student is met with the appropriate level of complexity and support.
Responsive Culture: Cultivate a classroom community rooted in the Responsive Classroom approach, balancing high academic expectations with proactive, social-emotional management.
Purposeful Environment: Oversee the classroom’s physical environment—ensuring the layout and aesthetic serve as a functional, inspiring catalyst for student work and collaboration.
Evidence-Based Growth: Maintain meticulous anecdotal and data-driven records to track student progress, utilizing these insights to pivot instruction and provide deep context for family reporting.
Strategic Planning & Community Integration
Logistics & Signature Experiences: Co-lead the planning and execution of quintessential 4th-grade milestones, including the Gold Rush trip, school-wide performances, and grade-level celebrations.
Parent Partnership: Act as an advocate and point of contact for families, fostering trust through proactive, professional, and empathetic communication.
Communication Excellence: Translate student growth into clear narratives through comprehensive report cards, parent/guardian and teacher conferences, and dynamic Back-to-School Night presentations.
Digital Leadership: Leverage educational technology and digital platforms to streamline home-school communication and enhance classroom transparency.
Collaborative Growth: Partner with Lower School Administration and cross-departmental teams to drive curriculum alignment and contribute to the broader professional vitality of the faculty.
Qualifications
An ideal candidate will have most of the following qualifications:
K-5 Multi-Subject California Credential; required
At least 2 years of teaching experience in self-contained classrooms required (experience with 3-5 programs and students preferred).
The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:
Mossflower (formerly Lucy Calkins) Reading and Writing Project Curriculum
Singapore Math/Eureka Math/Zearn Math
Social Studies-California History
Trained in Mindfulness Practice
Knowledge of Second Step SEL Curriculum
Trained in Responsive Classroom
Experience in team teaching and collaboration.
Willing to learn technology programs essential to differentiating and/or enhancing student learning.
Compensation
The salary range is $70,400 - $140,000 annually. Placement within the range will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Candidates with fewer years of experience can expect placement toward the lower end of the range.
