Applicants should be flexible in their ability to teach five sections of Middle School Math, ranging from Math 6 through Algebra 1 and Geometry, and including grades 6–8. Middle School Math teachers at Seattle Academy emphasize conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving while fostering confidence, persistence, and curiosity in young learners. Instruction is student-centered and developmentally responsive, balancing academic rigor with strong relational support.
The ideal candidate will enjoy working with a diverse population of learners and skilled in supporting students across a range of mathematical readiness levels. Full-time faculty at Seattle Academy typically teach five classes and carry additional supervisory or advisory responsibilities as assigned.
Teaching Responsibilities
- Teach five sections of Middle School math courses ranging from Math 6 through Algebra 1 and Geometry.
- Design and deliver lessons aligned with Middle School math standards and departmental learning goals.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to support diverse learners and promote deep conceptual understanding.
- Seek opportunities for professional growth and development.
- Implement and thoughtfully unpack a new math curriculum, ensuring lessons and assessments align with established course learning targets.
- Incorporate formative and summative assessment practices to provide timely, meaningful feedback.
- Foster a classroom environment that supports risk-taking, collaboration, and growth.
- Collaborate with Middle School colleagues on curriculum development, assessment practices, and student support.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with students, families, and colleagues.
- Participate fully in the life of the Middle School, including advisory, faculty meetings, and community events.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of Middle School teaching experience preferred.
- Experience teaching a range of middle school math courses, including pre-algebra and Algebra 1.
- Undergraduate degree required; master’s degree preferred.
- Strong content knowledge and commitment to effective math pedagogy.
- Evidence of engagement in professional learning (e.g., workshops, conferences, professional learning communities, or coursework) that informs instructional practice.
