SUMMARY:
The Upper School Mathematics Department is seeking a teacher who is passionate about the study of math, enthusiastic about working with high school students and committed to developing their craft as a teacher. Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated ability to foster students’ mathematical thinking and experience teaching in student-centered environments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach four sections of math
- Successfully engage and develop student’s interest and enthusiasm for the subject matter
- Attend departmental and divisional meetings, as well as all school professional development events. We offer a year-long program of activities for teachers new to the Masters School.
- Serve as an advisor to a group of 8-10 students (starting in the second year of employment)
- Participate in the life of the Upper School by attending full group activities (morning meeting, student presentations and performances and culminating events)
- Proctor Study Hall and participate in non-teaching responsibilities, such as advising a club, coaching, or leading a co-curricular after school
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Math or related field required, Masters preferred
- Experience with teaching higher levels of high school math preferred
- Understanding of and desire to work with upper school students
- Familiar with and willing to explore student-centered pedagogical approaches
- Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency
- Proven ability to communicate with students, parents and colleagues to build community and support student learning, including excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Energy, enthusiasm and curiosity – willingness to be a fellow learner with students and to collaborate with colleagues
- Interest in and aptitude for building new programs/classes/learning experiences
- Proficient in the use of technology
