Position available: Blair seeks an English teacher with a strong academic background in composition and literature, and a passion for guiding students through discussion, writing, and presentation. The ideal candidate is interested in discussion-based pedagogy and helping students develop their voice through structured conversation, writing projects, and public speaking.
The strongest applicants will:
Have a love for the study of English and the drive to inspire that passion in students;
Be an avid reader, as well as a consumer and student of literature;
Possess a strong command of the tools of good writing, specifically grammar, mechanics, and vocabulary;
Balance a passion for literature and writing with investment in evidence-based teaching strategies;
Have a BA in English or comparative literature and/or an advanced degree in those subjects;
Demonstrate an interest in teaching students of all levels, from the introductory through advanced levels;
Work closely with colleagues to design and refine engaging curricular materials;
Guide students in developing their questioning, critical reading, writing, and discussion skills;
Support departmental and cross-departmental literary initiatives, including but not limited to structured discussion,the all-school read, and the re-launch ofBlair’s literary magazine; and
Actively contribute to department efforts to support the development of Blair’s English curriculum in the years ahead.

Typical job responsibilities include:
Teaching four sections each semester;
Coaching or assisting with a sport for two seasons or with activities for three seasons;
Advising a group of six; and
Providing weekly supervision for boarding students during some evening and weekend hours.
Salary & other compensation:Base pay range is $45,000 to $75,000. Salary is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to education and experience. Other compensation based on assigned job duties may include a stipend for dormitory work and other responsibilities not stated herein.
Benefits: Our robust benefits program includes, but is not limited to, on-campus housing (for most faculty positions) and three meals a day in our dining hall during the school year.
