The Harpeth Hall School seeks an upper school visual art teacher. Harpeth Hall is committed to being an inclusive school community, and we seek educators who embrace our school values and who are dedicated to equity in all aspects of learning. The candidate should be a dynamic, creative, and collaborative teacher of visual art who is qualified to teach a wide range of upper school art courses. The current list of upper school visual arts offerings are: Art Foundations, Design Foundations, Ceramics I, II, III, Drawing I, II, III, History of American Cinema, Media Art I, II, Painting I, II, III, PhotographyI, II, Photography/ Media Arts III, Printmaking I, II, III, AP Art and Design, and AP Art History.
The ideal applicant is an experienced teacher who has an enthusiasm for working with high school students in an all-girls environment, a commitment to innovative pedagogy, and excellent writing and communication skills. A master’s degree and teaching experience at either the high school or university level are preferred. The upper school Visual Arts Department works closely as a team to maintain and ensure a strong art curriculum. This position begins August 1, 2026. This position would entail teaching 4 art classes, serving as an advisor, and contributing to the extracurricular programming of the school.
JOB DUTIES
Design, develop, and deliver quality art lessons that align with the scope and sequence of the visual arts curriculum
Teach the foundational visual art curriculum to primarily 9th grade students
Teach other art courses among those listed above, as needed
Monitor the progress of students on a lesson by lesson basis, offering extra studio practice and instruction when needed.
Assess student learning and art progression using a variety of modalities and provide timely and thoughtful feedback.
Coordinate with other visual arts staff to organize student exhibitions to showcase artwork on campus and in the community
Offer individual assistance outside of class to students who need extra help.
Communicate with students, advisors, and parents through comments, emails, phone calls, conferences, and through Schoology, our online learning management system
Organize, plan, attend meetings with department members in the upper school, as well as those from the other departments and divisions.
Perform other duties such as maintaining and updating the Schoology page daily, entering and reporting grades on Schoology, proctoring exams, documenting curriculum, and writing comments.
