Friends School Haverford seeks a warm, reflective, and collaborative educator to serve as a Kindergarten Teacher (maternity leave replacement) from September 2026 through January 2027. The position includes a short overlap period with the returning teacher to support a smooth transition and the completion of mid-year student reports.

Responsibilities
The Kindergarten Teacher will:
Design and implement a developmentally appropriate program
Plan and facilitate learning experiences that support early literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies through play, inquiry, and exploration
Use observation and assessment to support each child’s growth
Cultivate a warm classroom community
Create a nurturing environment where children develop independence, empathy, and confidence
Support children’s social-emotional development and problem-solving skills
Support foundational learning
Guide children’s early literacy development through reading, writing, storytelling, and language-rich experiences
Support mathematical thinking through hands-on exploration and small-group instruction
Partner with families
Communicate regularly with families about children’s development and classroom experiences
Participate in conferences and ongoing family engagement
Collaborate with colleagues
Work closely with the kindergarten team, specialist teachers, and school leadership
Participate in faculty meetings and collaborative planning
Participate in the life of the school
Supervise students during lunch and recess
Contribute positively to the collaborative and reflective culture of the school

Strong candidates will have:
A Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education (advanced degree preferred)
Experience teaching kindergarten or early elementary students
A strong understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practice
Experience supporting early literacy and numeracy development
A collaborative spirit and excellent communication skills
Interest in inquiry-based, project-based, or emergent curriculum approaches
