Position Objective

Mountain Sun Community School seeks an Assistant Head of School for Student Experience to lead student well-being, belonging, and community culture across our PK–8 Montessori program. This role oversees student support systems, social-emotional leadership, transitions, and family partnership related to student experience.

Reports to: Head of School

Works with: Mountain Sun faculty, staff, and families

Compensation & Benefits: Compensation for this full-time, salaried position is based on experience and includes substantial MSCS tuition remission and a retirement plan.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead PK–8 student support and well-being systems
• Oversee student support plans and collaboration
• Partner with faculty on SEL and behavioral support
• Oversee work with specialists and outside providers
• Support student transitions between levels
• Steward belonging and restorative practices
• Guide community norms and student experience programming
• Partner with families around student well-being
• Support orientations and transitions
• Contribute to hiring and program stewardship

Qualifications

• Strong background in child development, SEL, or student support leadership
• Experience coordinating student support systems
• Calm relational leadership presence
• Excellent family partnership skills
• Systems thinking and collaboration
• Commitment to sustainable student-centered leadership

Education & Credentials

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Master’s degree in education, counseling, child development, psychology, or related field strongly preferred
• Montessori credential or significant Montessori developmental experience strongly preferred
• Additional SEL or restorative practices training valued

An equivalent combination of education and leadership experience in Montessori or mission-aligned school settings may be considered.
