Job Summary
Nantucket New School seeks a dynamic, student-centered Mathematics teacher who is passionate about fostering foundational academic skills through conceptual math practices. This role is ideal for educators who thrive in a collaborative environment, value professional growth, and are committed to nurturing the whole child.
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position. Limited housing may be available.
Essential Teacher Qualifications
Deep knowledge of subject matter, including mathematics curriculum for Middle School age students (Grades 5-8), Singapore math, and project-based learning
Able to differentiate instruction for a range of learning styles
Able to create a positive classroom community and build relationships with students and families
Strong communication skills with students, employees, and parents
Open to feedback and continuous growth
Creative in instructional and classroom management strategies
Cooperative, collaborative, supportive, flexible
Bachelor's degree, with a Master’s degree preferred
Coursework in education is not required, nor is certification

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare subject-specific, developmentally-appropriate lessons for students in the subject area of mathematics across the Upper School. This includes one section of each grade level (5, 6, 7, 8)
Provide instruction in an interactive learning environment.
Serve as an advisor to one grade level.
Collaborate with other teachers in a community of lifelong learners.
Manage student behavior to foster a culture of belonging, encourage personal responsibility, and nurture intellect and individuality in all students.
Perform non-teaching duties to support and assist students and the school as assigned
Observe and evaluate every student's academic, social, and emotional growth, keeping appropriate records and preparing progress reports
Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' academic progress as well as their social and emotional growth
