Norwood School does not discriminate in employment opportunities or practices on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by law.
Founded in 1952, Norwood School is a coeducational, independent day school with approximately 450 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The School sits on 40 beautiful and expansive acres in Bethesda, Maryland, less than six miles from Washington, D.C. As one of the finest PK-8 schools in the country, Norwood sets the bar high and is committed to educating the whole child in a diverse, student-centered, challenging, and nurturing environment, which continually promotes equity, inclusion, and cultural competence.
Norwood’s child-centered education and its very intentional emphasis on being a happy place of learning create an environment where each individual child is loved, nurtured, challenged, and truly known. As a result, children flourish at Norwood. They love learning; they are creative and critical thinkers. They are confident in who they are, and they feel safe taking risks. They are kind and caring people, who, fueled by our motto, How you lead your life matters, make helping others a priority in their lives. At the end of their eighth-grade year, our graduates leave Norwood exceptionally well-prepared for high school and empowered to make positive contributions to our world.
Norwood has an opening for an experienced and dynamic Assistant Director of Admission, who will join the Director of Admission and Enrollment Management in managing all aspects of recruitment and admission for Norwood School. The Assistant Director of Admission must exhibit excellent interpersonal, organizational, collaborative, and written and oral communication skills, demonstrate a natural marketing instinct, and possess the following qualities and attributes: enthusiasm, creativity, initiative, confidence, humor, and commitment to excellence. Essential job functions include:
Communicating Norwood's mission and vision to prospective parents, prospective students, educational consultants, and feeder school representatives
Supporting annual admission goals, in accordance with the School’s mission to increase representation of socio-economically, geographically, racially, culturally, and socially underrepresented populations in the student body, based on enrollment goals set by the Board of Trustees
Partnering with the Director of Admission and Enrollment Management to build a long-term admission strategy and office goals aligned with the School for each admission year
Supporting the needs of the office as necessary to ensure a competitive applicant pool and mission-appropriate student body
Interviewing and touring prospective families
Organizing and attending special events such as open houses, fairs, and welcoming receptions
Managing all aspects of the annual Family Information Update
Preparing and printing flyers for prospective parents
Developing marketing materials, mailings, and publications, including but not limited to email newsletters, new student directories, admission brochures, and other publications as assigned
Serving as an ambassador for the School for both internal and external constituency groups
Overseeing the Middle School Student Ambassador Program
Overseeing the Summer Family Playdates Program
Writing and distributing monthly admission pipeline newsletters for prospective families
Fulfilling duties as assigned by the Director of Admission and Enrollment Management
The Assistant Director of Admission is a full-time, 12-month staff position, benefits-eligible. An appreciation for Norwood School's commitment to academic and personal excellence, values, and diversity is essential. An undergraduate degree is required. Previous admission experience is highly preferred.
Interested applicants should submit a cover letter and resume as one document in pdf format to Alex Ragone, Director of Admission and Enrollment Management, at aragone@norwoodschool.org. No phone calls, please.
