The Rectory School was founded in 1920 when the Reverend and Mrs. Frank H. Bigelow sought to create an individualized learning program for their son, John. The benchmark program has developed into a distinct advantage of a Rectory education. Rectory has the capacity to meet the educational needs and aspirations of a wide range of students, from strong traditional learners to those who have inquisitive minds but need more academic support.
The Rectory School’s 138-acre rural campus provides a scenic and secure home to approximately 260 students, covering the ages from K to 9th grade. Rectory is a coeducational institution at all levels. The 5th – 9th grade junior school has approximately 210 students, 145 of whom are boarding students. These students come to Rectory from all around the United States and from nine different countries. Average class size is 10, and the student-teacher ratio is 4:1.
Position Overview
Rectory School seeks a full-time Mathematics teacher to teach a full range of math classes, including up to Algebra 2, in our middle school, grades 5-9. In addition to teaching and coaching responsibilities, the successful candidate is expected to serve as a dorm parent in one of the school residences. Additional duties assigned usually include serving as a student advisor, monitoring a study hall, and assisting with student activities. A desire to work with middle school students is essential. Experience with student-centered teaching and using technology in the classroom is preferred.
Rectory School seeks a full-time Mathematics Teacher for grades 5-9. The successful candidate will teach a full range of middle school mathematics courses, including up to Algebra 2, play an integral role in our residential community, and coach.
Key Responsibilities:
Teach mathematics courses across grades 5-9, including up to Algebra 2
Serve as a dorm parent in one of our school residences
Coach athletic team(s)
Serve as a student advisor, lead an elective, and among other responsibilities
Assist with student activities and campus life
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate brings a genuine passion for working with middle school students and thrives in a residential school environment. Experience with student-centered teaching approaches and integrating technology in the classroom is highly valued.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate educational field; B.A. Mathematics or related field.
Experience working with middle school students
Passion for independent school education and the professionalism, energy, and commitment necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
Enthusiasm for residential life and willingness to live in a dormitory setting
Interest in coaching athletic teams
Preferred:
Advanced degree in education or a related field
Prior experience in a boarding school environment
