Saint Patrick Catholic School is currently seeking a Lower School Teacher to nurture and support Kindergarten students in their personal and academic growth for the 2026 - 2027 academic year.
Overview
Founded in 2005, Saint Patrick Catholic School (Norfolk, Virginia) is an independent Catholic school with an enrollment of approximately 400 students in grades pre-kindergarten through eight. Responsibilities
Understand child development and use this knowledge to maximize a child’s school experience
Develop and deliver meaningful, challenging, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences for students that align with the school’s academic and developmental standards.
Utilize the Science of Reading techniques to deliver effective reading instruction and interventions
Maintain and provide evidence of daily lesson and unit plans and materials that differentiate learning and maximize instructional time.
Conduct ongoing assessments of student learning, analyze the results, and modify instruction to fit student needs.
Provide constructive student observations and feedback in accordance with school policy and procedures.
Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by school procedures.
Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, nurturing classroom environment in accordance with the school’s guidelines that fosters the intellectual, social-emotional, spiritual, and physical development of all students.
Take all necessary safety precautions to protect students in a variety of school settings.
Ensure effective communication with students and parents; encourage collaboration and provide regular feedback (both written and in-person) to parents.
Coordinate with peers, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum and collaboratively plan.
Appraise own effectiveness and continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field.
Attend regular faculty and department meetings; participate in designated professional development activities; contribute to teamwork and positive morale.
Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher assistants
Participate in faith formation experiences
Perform other duties as directed by the school administration
Comply with school policies and procedures
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, possess strong interpersonal skills, and be able to solve problems without sacrificing relationships.
Must be able to sit or stand for long periods
Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, climb stairs, bend, crouch, crawl, stoop and run
Experience with classroom management and working with digital technologies
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field
2-4 years of teaching experience, preferably in elementary education
Licensed by the Virginia Department of Education (preferred)
