Position Title: Middle School Learning Specialist FLSA Classification: Exempt Reports To: Campus Head
Position Purpose:
The Middle School Learning Specialist plays a key role in the school’s academic support services, responsible for planning, facilitating, and monitoring student learning and accommodations. Working as part of a team of Learning Specialists, this individual collaborates with Campus Heads, Counselors, Academic Advisors, Teachers, Parents, and external professionals to support students' diverse learning needs. By assisting students in understanding their learning styles and helping faculty accommodate these differences, the Learning Specialist ensures each student's academic success. This role serves both individual students and the school community in understanding and addressing learning differences.
Essential Functions:
Identify students who may require learning accommodations and collaborate with faculty to ensure proper implementation.
Review psychological and cognitive assessments with staff to interpret educational evaluations and apply accommodations in the classroom.
Organize and lead meetings with families and teachers to discuss student needs and recommendations for support.
Work with teachers to develop learning strategies, improve curricular approaches, and enhance instructional techniques.
Participate in parent-teacher conferences and interdisciplinary team meetings as needed.
Serve as a liaison between students, families, school staff, and external professionals, ensuring clear and regular communication on student progress.
Provide consultations with teachers, parents, administrators, and external specialists on the learning needs of students.
Maintain confidential student records and document meetings and communications in line with professional and ethical standards.
Ensure seamless communication between teachers regarding assessments and student needs across school years.
Offer professional development for faculty and staff on learning differences, enhancing their ability to support diverse learners.
Act as a resource for teaching strategies, learning styles, and classroom management to benefit student learning.
Assist Admissions with student assessments and placement decisions, as necessary.
Provide small-group instruction or one-on-one interventions when needed to help students achieve success.
Collaborate with faculty to develop programs that comprehensively support students' academic needs.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field is required; Master’s Degree is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of five years of experience working in a learning support or similar role, with strong knowledge of learning differences.
Ability to interpret and apply diagnostic test results in an educational setting.
Expertise in applying diverse teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles.
Proven experience in developing and implementing successful learning interventions.
Ability to model and promote best practices in teaching and learning.
Knowledge of current laws regarding accommodations and services for students in private schools.
Strong communication, listening, and relationship-building skills, with an open mind and commitment to inclusion.
Experience working with classroom teachers on differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all students.
