Position Overview
The Red Oaks School, a Pre-K-8 independent school in Morristown, NJ, is seeking a Middle School Science Teacher for the upcoming school year. As an IB World School, Red Oaks emphasizes inquiry-driven, hands-on learning where students actively engage in understanding the natural world. Our science curriculum encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving by immersing students in dynamic classroom experiences, hands-on lab work, and real-world scientific exploration. The ideal candidate will have a deep passion for science and working with middle school students. Overview of Responsibilities:
Plan and implement engaging, inquiry-based science lessons that emphasize hands-on experiments, lab work, and real-world applications.
Create opportunities for students to develop scientific reasoning, data analysis skills, and collaborative problem-solving.
Foster a love of science and an appreciation for the scientific method through active experimentation and exploration. We want our students to see themselves as scientists, actively engaged in understanding the world around them.
Utilize IB MYP principles to integrate interdisciplinary approaches and global perspectives into the curriculum.
Serve as a class advisor – advocating for students, fostering executive functioning skills, and maintaining open communication with families.
Cultivate a collaborative and supportive classroom environment where students feel safe to take intellectual risks and explore scientific concepts deeply.
Encourage students to think critically about scientific issues, consider ethical implications, and apply their learning to global challenges.
Collaborate with colleagues to develop an engaging and cohesive curriculum.
Engage students in meaningful feedback and reflection to support growth.
Education & Experience: A degree in science, education, or a related STEM field with at least 3 years of teaching experience preferred. IB MYP experience or training is a plus.
Inquiry-Based Teaching: Familiarity with student-centered, inquiry-based methodologies and a commitment to developing critical thinkers.
Passion for Science: A deep enthusiasm for science and a commitment to fostering a love of exploration and discovery in students.

Founded in 1965, the mission of Red Oaks School is to develop each child's gifts by inspiring personal and intellectual growth.
