SUMMARY:
The Masters School’s Middle School seeks a skilled educator to teach two sections of 7th grade and two sections of 8th grade Spanish. Ideal candidates will be excited by the prospect of playing an active role in the School and in a strong department that bridges two divisions. This position is an opportunity to build on growing programs in collaboration with colleagues in the Modern and Classical Languages Department.
Ideal candidates will have a commitment to creating student-centered classrooms and experience teaching students with a range of skill levels. Additional consideration will be given to candidates who have experience in proficiency-based language learning environments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach two sections of 7th and two sections of 8th grade Spanish classes.
Serve as an advisor to a small group of students.
Fulfill a Non Teaching Responsibility (NTR) as assigned by the Head of Middle School.
Successfully engage and develop students’ interest in the language and in Spanish-speaking cultures around the world.
Attend departmental and divisional meetings, as well as all-school professional development events. We offer a yearlong program of activities for teachers new to The Masters School.
Participate in the life of the School by attending full group activities (Middle School Gatherings, student presentations/performances, and culminating events).
REQUIREMENTS:
Understanding of and desire to work with middle and upper school students
Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency
The ability to teach multiple languages is preferred
Energy, enthusiasm and curiosity – willingness to be a fellow learner with students
Proven ability to communicate with students, parents and colleagues to build community and support student learning, including excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and to work independently
Interest in and aptitude for building new learning experiences
Awareness of current pedagogical theory
Three years language teaching experience, preferably working in an independent school or similar environment
Interest in being an active member of the The Masters School community, such as enhancing student life, leading a student club, or coaching a team
Bachelor’s degree in Spanish or Romance Languages; advanced degree preferred
