Inly School seeks a reflective and collaborative Lower Elementary Teacher to oversee and manage a Montessori Lower Elementary classroom. The Lower Elementary Teacher plays a key role in fostering academic growth, independence, and social-emotional development during a critical stage of a child’s learning journey.
Inly School is an independent PreK–8 Montessori-plus School located in Scituate, MA that serves over 200 students from 20 South Shore towns and is deeply rooted in Montessori, child-centered, and inclusive educational practices. At Inly, our Montessori+ practices inspire an inclusive community of learners to explore and shape themselves and the world with joyful curiosity, courage, and compassion. We actively seek faculty who embrace collaboration, empathy, respect, and the holistic development of each child.
All children must be treated with respect and dignity, with their self-esteem as individuals held as a paramount concern. Learning is emphasized through hands-on, experiential instruction that values both process and product, fostering competence, confidence, and self-worth.
Position Structure
The Lower Elementary Teacher is responsible for overseeing and managing a Lower Elementary classroom and works in close partnership with a co-teacher and colleagues to design, implement, and continuously improve the academic program.
As a member of the Inly School staff, the teacher is expected to carry out the mission of the school, advocate for the school community, and offer input whenever opportunities for improvement arise. Faculty share responsibility for the success of the school.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver a comprehensive Montessori and Inly-adopted curriculum across Lower Elementary disciplines, including math, reading, writing, spelling, cultural studies, science, practical life, and life skills.
Collaborate daily with a co-teacher and more broadly with colleagues to design, implement, and continuously improve instruction aligned with Inly School’s strategic objectives and Montessori core values.
Create and maintain a prepared environment that is orderly, inviting, and supportive of student exploration, concentration, independence, and growth.
Observe, assess, and document each student’s progress to inform individualized and small-group lesson planning.
Support the whole child by meeting students’ emotional and social needs through warmth, stability, respectful communication, and guidance in expressing thoughts and feelings.
Work collaboratively with peers in instruction, classroom management, transitions, recess, and parent communication.
Supervise students during outdoor play, arrivals, dismissals, hallway transitions, and class field studies.
Conduct new parent and student interviews.
Engage in professional growth through observations in other school environments, pedagogical conversations, level meetings, professional development, and Shared Learning Communities, unless job requirements do not allow.
Utilize school resources, including colleagues, the Learning Services team, and the Head of School, to ensure each student receives appropriate support.
Assist with support duties as needed throughout the year, including Passport, playground, lunch, arrivals, and dismissals coverage, with details shared once schedules are finalized.
Read and follow expectations outlined in the Classroom and Employee Handbooks.
