Latin School of Chicago provides its students with a rigorous and innovative educational program in a community that embraces diversity of people, cultures and ideas. Latin inspires its students to pursue their passions and lead lives of purpose and excellence. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has a passion for teaching and supporting students in an outstanding academic environment.
The Counseling Program at Latin provides a range of prevention and intervention services to support students’ emotional, social and educational development so they may lead satisfying and productive lives at Latin and beyond. The emotional and social well-being and safety of our students are the foremost concerns of the counseling program. One of the primary roles of the counselor is to provide support and expertise to students who may experience psychological stress, social difficulties, an acute crisis, or are participating in high-risk behaviors. Counselors also consult with administrators, teachers and families and serve as a liaison with medical/mental health professionals.
The Counselors offer an open and accepting environment, treat each student with dignity and respect and serve students in a culturally competent manner.. Any student or family member may request or be referred to one of the counselors who will collaboratively develop the best plan to address that student’s needs. Counselors strive to maintain sensitivity to the privacy of student and family concerns. Confidentiality will be maintained except in situations when there is a concern for the safety or well-being of a student or disclosure is required by law and/or professional standards. Students are also welcome to informally stop by a counseling office to speak, informally, with a counselor and/or ask a question at any time.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide culturally competent counseling support to a caseload of students alongside the other US counselors
Offer short-term solution-focused counseling to students who drop in, request a check-in, or have been referred by a teacher/administrator.

Since 1888, Latin has been committed to academic excellence in an environment that creates a life-long love of learning and supports students as they pursue their passions. Our school is home to students from throughout the city and suburbs and we value the variety of experiences that they bring to our learning environment. “Of Chicago” is more than a part of our school’s name – those words help to define the school itself.
