Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages (French and Spanish)
The successful candidate will teach Spanish and French at the Middle and Senior School levels, and as required at the Primary School level. The ability to teach Advanced Placement French and Spanish Language and Culture or equivalent is preferred. The role focuses on developing students’ communicative competence, intercultural understanding, and language proficiency within competency-based curriculum frameworks, including the BC Curriculum for designated courses. Responsibilities:
Teach Spanish and French across Middle and Senior School levels, with flexibility to support Primary instruction as required.
Design learning experiences aligned with competency-based curriculum frameworks, including the BC Curriculum (for designated courses), emphasising communicative approach, inquiry, and real world language use.
Experience teaching AP French and Spanish Language and Culture is preferred.
Employ a range of pedagogical approaches, including inquiry-based learning, project-based learning, and direct instruction.
Use a variety of assessment and evaluation approaches aligned with competency-based and 21st-century assessment practices.
Integrate information technology effectively to enhance language learning.
Use an online grading system and contribute to the creation and ongoing refinement of schemes of work and shared resources.
Co-construct with students a foreign language learning environment that establishes high standards, fosters belonging, and upholds inclusivity and safety.
Willingness to participate in extracurricular activities and the broader life of the School.
Willingness to provide cover for absences and/or advisory responsibilities as required.
Minimum Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
A recognised graduate qualification and a minimum of three years’ classroom teaching experience.
Licensure with, or eligibility for licensure by, the Bermuda Educators Council.
Proven success delivering Modern Foreign Languages in a differentiated Secondary classroom.
Strong understanding of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) or ACTFL standards.
Familiarity with international language proficiency exams and certifications such as DELF, DALF, DELE, and TCF (asset).
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English with students, parents, colleagues, and the wider school community.
