The Advent School seeks a passionate educator for the 2026-27 school year who brings intelligence, creativity, scientific knowledge, and progressive teaching pedagogy to the school community.
Atelieristas at Advent teach in both the Atelier and within an integrated framework, collaborating with the classroom teachers and other Specialists. Lessons are designed specifically to promote collaborative problem-solving and student-directed hands-on project work.
Responsibilities & Duties
Teachers at The Advent School know their students deeply and use this understanding to design and facilitate a student-centered curriculum that integrates academic and social-emotional learning. Our program emphasizes progressive, hands-on, project-based teaching that weaves together the arts, core academic skills, and social justice.
The Atelierista plays a central role in this work by designing and facilitating a thematic, student-centered curriculum that integrates art and science for early childhood ( PreK) through second grade. This educator leads small groups independently and partners closely with classroom teachers to support integrated explorations and project work. They make learning visible through thoughtful documentation and serve as a coach to teaching teams, supporting curriculum planning, material selection, and the development of meaningful, inquiry-based projects.
The Atelierista also facilitates bi-weekly meetings with grade-level teams to collaborate on and deepen the implementation of Reggio-inspired practices, including the planning and execution of thematic, project-based learning.
Key Responsibilities
Co-create planning tools and protocols that support teachers in developing robust, emergent, interdisciplinary projects
Partner with teachers to design and refine inquiry-driven, project-based units that evolve from student questions while honoring both standards and curiosity
Support pedagogical documentation as a reflective practice, helping teachers observe, interpret, and respond to student thinking
Guide teachers in amplifying student voice, choice, and multiple forms of expression through varied modalities (visual arts, construction, movement, dialogue, writing)
Serve as a thought partner in responsive teaching, supporting teachers in identifying patterns in student learning and making informed, flexible instructional decisions
Collaborate with the Upper School Atelierista on a series of teacher-facing professional development on project based teaching.
Professional Development Professional learning is central to maintaining the high standards of education at The Advent School. Teachers are expected to actively engage as learners, collaborators, and reflective practitioners within a culture of ongoing dialogue and inquiry.
Required Skills & Characteristics The Advent School seeks educators who are deeply aligned with its mission of equity and social justice. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of the Reggio Emilia Approach, experience with co-teaching and differentiation, and a commitment to collaborative practice. Candidates should be:
Advocates for anti-bias and anti-racist teaching with both children and adults
Lifelong learners who are reflective, resourceful, and collaborative
Enthusiastic and caring educators who believe in students’ capacity to effect change
Strong communicators, particularly in writing with families and colleagues
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required
3+ years of teaching or related experience preferred
Advanced degree preferred
Salary range $70,000-$90,000 depending on experience.
Interested candidates should email their resume, cover letter, and the names of three references to careers@adventschool.org. In your cover letter, please include your connection to the mission of The Advent School.
