Position Overview
Hilton Head Preparatory School invites applications for a part-time Ceramics Teacher beginning August 2026. This position includes teaching two Upper School Ceramics courses and one Middle School Ceramics course, with classes meeting on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
The ideal candidate is a creative, student-centered educator who is passionate about ceramics and visual arts education. The successful candidate will foster artistic growth while helping students develop technical skills, creative confidence, perseverance, and an appreciation for the artistic process. Candidates should be able to create a welcoming studio environment where students are encouraged to explore, take risks, solve problems, and express themselves through clay.

Expertise in ceramics, pottery, sculpture, and clay-based artistic techniques

Key Responsibilities
Teach two Upper School Ceramics classes and one Middle School Ceramics class. Develop and deliver engaging lessons that balance technical skill development with artistic expression and creativity.
Foster a classroom culture that encourages curiosity, craftsmanship, collaboration, and self-reflection.
Instruct students in hand-building, wheel throwing, glazing, firing, sculpture, and other ceramic techniques as appropriate.
Maintain the ceramics studio, equipment, supplies, and kiln operations in accordance with safety standards and best practices.
Assess student work and provide timely, constructive feedback that promotes growth and artistic confidence.
Communicate regularly with students and families regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
Maintain accurate records and course information through the school's learning management system.
Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to support interdisciplinary learning opportunities when appropriate.
Pursue ongoing professional growth and remain current with developments in ceramics and visual arts education.
Contribute positively to the life of the school and support student growth beyond the classroom.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required; degree in Ceramics, Studio Art, Art Education, Fine Arts, or related field preferred.
Demonstrated experience teaching ceramics and/or visual arts to middle school and high school students.
Experience operating and maintaining ceramics equipment and kilns preferred.
Strong organizational and classroom management skills.
Ability to inspire students while supporting a wide range of learning styles and artistic abilities.
Commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and academically ambitious learning environment.
Technological proficiency appropriate for instructional planning, communication, and assessment.
A passion for working with adolescents and contributing to their intellectual, artistic, and personal growth.
