The Extended Programs Counselor is primarily responsible for supporting the Extended Care program by supervising students, carrying out activities and guiding students throughout after school activities. Extended Programs Counselors are expected to encourage learning and good behavior in a safe school environment for students. Some essential jobs functions include, but are not limited to the following:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assures students are properly supervised at all times.
Supervise enrichment activities.
Manage after school group games.
Coordinate snack preparation
Encourage students to participate in scheduled activities
Communicate well with students, parents, fellow counselors, and supervisor
Promote a fun attitude and positive atmosphere
Follow safety guidelines and assure student safety
Attend school and department meetings, as applicable
Maintain confidentiality of student, parent, and staff information
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
1-2 years related experience in childcare
Demonstrates creativity, initiative, attention to detail and an ability to work well with a team and/or independently.
Demonstrates personal integrity, friendliness, patience, fairness, openness, non-defensiveness, sensitivity, flexibility, and enthusiasm
Ability to apply common sense in dealing with day-to-day and emergency situations.
Detail-oriented and highly organized.
Ability to respond to questions and solve problems from administrators, teachers, parents, students and visitors.
Ability to use computer technology, including program database, video chat programs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; frequently required to talk or hear; and occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms, and/or use hands to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to move and/or lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of their job. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations, and in a clean environment. Indoor classrooms, outdoor school yard and grounds. Exposure to student and playground noise.
