Early Childhood Assistant Teacher
Position Summary
St. Martin’s Episcopal School is seeking dependable, collaborative, and student-centered Early Childhood Assistant Teachers to support classroom instruction and daily operations in the Early Childhood division. Early Childhood Teaching Assistants could be assigned to a Toddler, Beginners, or Pre-K classroom. This full-time role plays an important part in assisting Lead Teachers with instructional support, classroom routines, and student supervision, helping to create a nurturing, organized, and engaging learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Support classroom instruction and learning activities under the guidance of the Lead Teacher
Assist with daily classroom routines, preparation, and organization
Work with students individually, in small groups, or whole group as directed
Supervise students during transitions, carpool, lunch, recess, and other school activities
Assist with classroom setup, materials, and administrative tasks
Escort students to and from classrooms and the clinic as needed
Chaperone field trips and support school events
Attend required meetings, chapel services, and school functions
Adhere to all school policies, including safety and emergency procedures
Observe children for signs of illness, injury, or emotional distress and report concerns promptly to the Lead Teacher and/or Head of Early Childhood and/or Dean of Students
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding students, families, and school matters
Communicate professionally and collaboratively with the teaching team
Support the Episcopal identity and mission of the School
Qualifications:
High-School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
Experience working with Early Childhood-aged children is desired
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Work Schedule and Position Status
This is a 10-month position that follows the School’s academic calendar. The position is paid over a 12-month period and includes typical daily working hours of Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–1:45 p.m. during the academic year. The position joins our faculty as a full-time and benefits-eligible employee. The role is salaried and non-exempt per FLSA guidelines.
Physical Requirements
This position is performed both indoors and outdoors, with noise levels ranging from soft to loud. The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, crouch, kneel, crawl, climb stairs, talk, and hear for extended periods. The role requires frequent use of hands and arms to handle small children, materials and equipment and occasional lifting or moving of 30-35 pounds. The employee must be able to move freely around the classroom and campus, as well as supervise students on the playground.
