At The Benjamin School, we believe that good teachers set high standards and expectations for their students and do everything they can to help them achieve them. We are looking for teachers who will help our students become self-directed, independent learners with superior academic and thinking skills. The ideal candidate will be able to incorporate multiple teaching styles and use varied approaches with students and the material. This person must have a desire to work with students in a challenging, college-preparatory environment and should possess strong interpersonal and written communication skills. Qualified candidates should demonstrate a passion for music education, intellectual curiosity, strong communication skills, the ability to work within a team, skills to engage and inspire students in the pursuit of learning, and commitment to ongoing professional development. The person filling this position will teach a variety of music classes, including band, jazz band, guitar, and acting-musical theater. This position also includes co-curricular responsibilities, such as serving as the musical director of a middle school drumline, and more, depending on the candidate's talents and interests.
Position Requirements and Professional Qualifications: > A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years teaching middle school music; an advanced music degree preferred; > Broad knowledge of musical techniques, history, and genres to better teach a range of students; > Experience integrating technology into the curriculum; > Strong classroom management skills; > Willingness to create a student-centered classroom; > A sense of joy to share a love of music with Middle School students; > Collegiality and a desire to collaborate with peers in advancing the school’s strategic initiatives are essential; > An interest and experience in interacting with students outside the classroom in co-curricular activities: sports, arts, school and community service, etc. > Attend before-and after-school meetings and professional development sessions. > Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. > Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to prioritize and work independently and address several challenges simultaneously. > Well-versed in technology, Google Workspace software suite, and office equipment related to the position. > Strong work ethic, attendance, and punctuality.

Physical and Work Requirements: > Attendance is required from 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., with occasional required commitments after 3:15, including Back to School Nights, parent-teacher conferences, and other classroom or school commitments that may extend beyond these hours. > Prolonged periods of sitting and standing > Frequent movement about the classroom and lift and/or move up to 15 pounds > Ability to work more than 8 hours a day, as well as evening and weekend hours as necessary for events and projects > Travel required for meetings, events, and professional development
