About the position: We are looking for a Lower School Afterschool Teacher to join our team for the 2025-2026 school year. This Afterschool Teacher position cares for students from Kindergarten through 5th Grade in both Extended Day (until 2:45pm) and Afterschool (until 5:45pm) programming, and during occasional Fun Camp and Professional Development days. Additional hours may be available to provide school-day subbing support on an occasional basis.
Typically this position works with other Auxiliary Program team members to provide Afterschool programming and supervision to 3rd, 4th and 5th graders each day from 2:45pm - 5:45pm, and supports the Kindergarten Extended Day program on Wednesdays. This is a part-time, in-person, hourly position beginning in late August 2025 and ending in June 2026, and includes paid hours during school-year holidays and vacation weeks.
Monitor student attendance and sign-outs using SchoolPass attendance software, keep track of student movements across various transition times and activity choices
Plan, develop, and implement engaging activity options for students in Extended Day and Afterschool
Work in the Extended Day program for Kindergarten on Wednesdays, including supervising lunch time, rest time, and in-classroom and outdoor activities
Distribute healthy snack options and establish responsible student clean-up routines
Engage with students in active recess play and joyful indoor games and craft times
Support healthy homework habits
Collaborate with Auxiliary Programs colleagues and classroom teachers as needed
Ensure the safety and well-being of each student
Care for and maintain school spaces, equipment, supplies and property of the program
Observe all rules and regulations of Shady Hill School
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Previous experience working with children required, preferably in a group setting
Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively required
Interest in child development and educational best-practices and commitment to respecting the needs of each child and honoring the pace of childhood required
Experience implementing Responsive Classroom Management techniques is a plus
Commitment to celebrating diversity and creating inclusive, identity-affirming communities
The pay range for this position is $22 - $24 / hour depending on experience. Based on the scheduled hours, this position is not eligible for benefits other than paid hours during holidays and school break weeks.
