Elementary School Science Teacher
The elementary science teacher will be an experienced, dynamic, nurturing member of the BCD faculty. The teacher will work in partnership with the elementary school faculty to implement a robust science curriculum for TK-5 students that embodies the mission of our school. Each TK-5 homeroom class (2 sections of 10-18 students at each grade level) attends science lab twice per six day cycle.
Responsibilities include:
Plan and develop hands-on, innovative curriculum and labs for all classes.
Maintain the science lab environment (e.g. organizing materials, setting up labs, photocopying materials).
Lead science in whole and small groups.
Provide a stimulating, creative, and appropriately challenged or appropriately differentiated educational environment, including opportunities for children to develop cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills.
Use best practices regarding student-centered instruction, collaboration, and authentic assessment.
Create and communicate information for conferences, progress reports, and report cards on behavior and social interactions.
Attend required school events and meetings.
Obtain the necessary materials for labs.
Set up and take down the labs in a timely manner.
Maintain student records.
Integrate technology into lessons as appropriate.
Co-plan and co-organize the annual science fair.
Provide regular and thorough communication to all BCD constituencies (students, parents, and colleagues).
Assist with special events as needed.
Support enrollment and retention by assisting with tours, events, and other school outreach; and
Supervise recess, lunch, carline or other duties as assigned.
Hours and Pay
BCD’s Elementary teachers work traditional school hours (7:30 - 3:30)
Salary Range is $54,000 to $85,000 Annually
This is an exempt position with excellent benefits and paid time off as outlined below

Requirements
Minimum Bachelor’s degree or higher with at least three years of science teaching experience, preferably with elementary grades.
Strong background in an inquiry approach to science education and in curriculum design, including interdisciplinary and project-based learning.
Experience following, developing, enhancing and delivering a robust science curriculum in whole group, small group, and individually.
Experience with technology integration and the use of scientific tools and technology
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Patience and creativity when working collaboratively with a range of constituent groups, including students, families, faculty, staff, and administration from diverse backgrounds.
Experience communicating and meeting with parents and providing detailed, data-based information about student growth in academics and behavior.
Experience with providing effective, timely, proactive communication with families about the growth of their child.
Flexible, patient, nurturing, and collaborative; exudes a sense of wonder and joy for science education.
Boulder Country Day School is located on 5 acres in Boulder, Colorado. We serve 300 students 2.5 years olds through 8th grade. The Middle School is an approved International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program.
